Y'lan

"You know it's not too late for you to pull out." Nola said breaking my attention away from the lobby full of protruding bellies.

"My pull out game is tight." I joked. "I can't say the same for everybody else's." I further joked causing her to tilt her head. Her brown orbs gazing into mine for a moment before a small smile crept across her face. "Nola I'm not going anywhere." I added. Her eyes lit up for a moment before she turned away to sign us in. "Besides you're my ride." I said stepping up behind her.

"Ever heard of Uber?" She quizzed leading us into the classroom.

"Ah nah. I don't fuck with Uber." I said as she placed her bag on the floor and began rummaging through it. "Can't be just getting into the backseat of anybody's car." I said as she took a seat on the mat.

"So let me get this right. Backseats are off limits but passenger seats are ok?" She looked up into my face awaiting an answer.

"Precisely." I said just as she tugged at the hem of my jeans.

"Sit down." She instructed. I pulled my jeans up before taking a seat next to her Indian style.

"Nola!" A petite white woman called out gaining both of our attention. "I'm so happy you made it." She said taking a seat herself.

"Wouldn't miss it." Nola said sounding a bit dry.

"Is this daddy?" She quizzed with a wink. Before briefly looking into my face and then back to Nola for an answer.

"Yes." I said just as Nola said no.

"No." Nola repeated causing a look of confusion to spread across the thin woman's face.

"No?" I quizzed feigning hurt.

"Y'Lan!" Nola seethed as I placed my hand across my chest. Leaning back to emphasize the hurt.

"This is news to me too." I said looking into the instructor's face before softly shaking my head.

"Oh my." She said immediately feeling guilty for something she hadn't even done.

"Y'Lan!" Nola forced through clenched teeth before playfully pushing me in the chest. Causing me to softly fall back onto my elbows.

"I'm sorry." I said attempting to hold in my laughter. Waving my hand in the air as I sat back up straight. "I'm Y'Lan." I said reaching for the instructor's hand to shake. "Nola's friend." I added.

"Oh. Okay." The instructor said now realizing I was simply joking. "Well Y'Lan, I'm Susan." She said placing her hand in mine and lightly shaking it. "And I'll be your instructor."

"It's nice to meet you Sue." I said allowing her hand to fall from mine. Something about the way she was looking at me was off.

Sue cleared her throat before taking to her feet. "Well, you two let me know if you need anything. Okay." She said as we both nodded our heads in understanding. She walked off and began to greet the other students. Taking a moment to peer over her shoulder at me before doing so.

"Great now she's going to be judging me this entire process." Nola said with a huff.

"Judging you?" I repeated. "Wait why would she be judging you?" I asked clearly confused by Nola's admission.

"Well when I first tried to sign up she told me I wasn't far enough in my pregnancy to began Lamaze classes. I practically had to beg her. I had to tell her all about how alone I had been during this entire process." She said shaking her head lightly, "I just needed some companionship. I needed to be around someone experiencing the same experience I am ... ya know." She said looking over her shoulder at me. Before allowing her gaze to fall to the floor.
