June
I'm awakened at 5:00 by the sound of my alarm clock. "Rise and shine, June," I mutter to myself. Quickly, I put on my training clothes and head out for my daily exercises. After, I take a shower and enter the kitchen for breakfast.
The kitchen (125 square feet, two 14 by 36 inch windows with silk white curtains stainless steel sink, cherrywood table with corresponding chairs) seems off, no bowls or spoons in the sink, Metias must have a night shift.
"Morning Mom. Morning Dad."
"Morning June," they reply simultaneously.
"Metias has a night shift today, right?" I say checking my theory.
"Yep," mom says.
I'm slightly discouraged. I was hoping that my brother could drop me off, instead of me taking the bus, avoiding unnecessary contact with strangers.
Surprisingly, I'm slighly nervous. Usually, I'm unaffected by situations like these.
When I was 10, I took test to ensure that I've been learning as a homeschooled child. The night before, I was completely fine and passed effortlessly. Why am I nervous now?
Quickly, I push the thoughts away and make some breakfast.
Before I know it, the bus is at the front door. My parents have already left for work and it's just me and my resting brother at home. Quietly, I leave the house. Right before I leave I whisper to Metias even though he can't hear me, "Wish me luck."
