What is love?
Love is a word described for a mutual feeling between two people who want to be with each other forever.
Love is an overused word.
Love is not manipulation. Love is not force. Love is not consent.
Love is not forcing yourself to be in a relationship with a toxic monster who influences you to believe in them.
Love is not crying yourself to sleep because you are afraid of what your partner might do next.
Love is not grabbing someone as your arm candy and using them for your own reputation.
Love is not being in a relationship you call healthy and texting others lewd pictures for your own pleasure that you "need".
Love is not forcing your partner to meet your needs.
Love is not leaving bruises so dark and deep that it even scars the soul of someone who has done everything for you. Someone who bought you gifts, cooked you meals, and did everything you asked, despite their own morals.
Love is not the hate you throw at someone for how they look because it doesn't match your idea of a perfect programmed person.
Love is not convincing yourself you are in a healthy relationship when they beat you everyday but apologize after and make up for it with sex that you didn't want.
Love is not scaring your partner into a suicide.
Love is not the hand prints on their soul of the places you touched them when they screamed for you to stop.
Love is not a constant guilt trip and pity parties to make them stay and adore you. Convincing them to "love" you.
Love is not screaming at them that they aren't good enough, throwing things, and mentally scarring them into submission.
Love is comforting them when they have had a day beyond repair.
Love is cooking for them when they don't ask and allowing them to have their days where you can just listen.
Love is consent.
Love is working at the pace that is respected by both parties.
Love is letting them talk to you non-stop and you never complaining and being involved in the things they are so involved in.
Love is being interested.
Love is being focused on them at a party and thinking they are the talk of the town and telling them that.
Love is looking at them enter a room and your eyes sparkle.
Love is feeling lucky to have your partner no matter who they might compare themselves to.
Love is telling them they are THE one.
Love is true.
Love is free.
Love is a word that has been thrown around for ages and imprinted on many young minds who don't understand what love is. The texts, the words, the scars. Those are not love, they will never be love. The holes in the walls, the broken glass, the blood, the bruises, the guilt.
Children will never understand true love and neither will I.
