As the morning sun rises, a few birds sing outside. But not miss Rain, who wakes up in her small bird house, inside her owners' room, with a little tweet as she stretches her wings. She swifts through the air before landing on Josue's cheek and flapping her wings to wake him up.

He groans.

She does the same with Rute, but doesn't expect her to wake up. So instead, she makes way through Josue's bed hair and flaps her wings.

"Okay, alright, Rain." He yawns and sits in bed, rubbing his eyes. "I'm up."

The lady bird chirps in response and happily goes to the window expectant until the man opens it for her.

Let me take you to Rio, Rio
Fly over the ocean like an eagle, eagle
Then we can chill in my gazeebo, gazeebo
Oh, oh, oh, oh - nah, nah, nah

It's not really a window, for it doesn't meet the outside. Instead it leads to the small corridor between the houses, where protected under a crystal dome, all the bird owners have placed plants everywhere where, a few benches and bird fountains.

Let me take you to Rio, Rio
Fly over the ocean like an eagle, eagle
Then we can chill in my gazeebo,
Oh, oh, oh, oh - nah, nah, nah

Rain's wings flap rapidly as she flies through the plants, near the succulents and into the warm water of a fountain. She perches in a tree branch and sips the nectar from a hot pink flower. A few older women open their windows, step outside with market bags in their hands, and smile in her direction.

"Hello, pretty thing." Some even hold their fingers and hands for her to perch on them, and she happily does, content with the attention that she receives because 'a tamed hummingbird is not a common thing to see'.

She makes her way back to the window and flies across the kitchen as Rute takes out her breakfast, some insects which she places in a plate, too big for a couple of bugs, and setting it on the small shelf which is just for her.

"You know, dear, since we have Rain, I never get up late for work anymore." Josue smiles while bitting on fruit.

"I don't know how she got our hearts so fast."

"A small bird with so much surprises and love."

Rain smiles and chirps as she flies down.

"We should get her something special, her anniversary is coming up."

"You are right, almost a year with us..." Rute slid a finger, down her blue and green feathers. "I don't know how we ever got so into her."

"What can we get her?"

"A small bracelet for her paw."

Oh, oh, oh, oh - nah, nah, nah

🌺

It was a bracelet, with her name and her address, the size of the smallest ring, and they slid it up her right paw. Shinny and silver, she flew to the gardens looking for her friends.

"Caio." She called for her friend, a green parrot, in the bloom of life, companion of a loud family. "Oh, Ciao."

Ciao was a green parrot, companion to a family with two little girls and two little boys, all well educated, he spoke with a an accent Rain could never identify other way than Ciao's accent. He wasn't as young as he seemed when he told her stories about his family and the children, yet he was one of the only birds who she felt comfortable with.

He found the parrot on a hanging garden, hiding with his tail feathers what Rain assumed it was worms he had found.

"Hello, Ciao."

"It's you, Rin." He asks in his distinctive accent. "Good morning."

"Notice anything different?" She flew to a an upper branch so he could get a glimpse of her new gift, not so obvious so it wouldn't seem like bragging.

"You...you had a bath ." The parrot moved his head from side to side.

"No, not that." She giggled a little.

"Well, you...had you feathers brushed." She giggled once more, and stretched her paw into the vague sunlight squeezed between the leaves around them. "Why, Rin, a very new bracelet!"

His eyes got wider as he recognized the object, he had in his own left paw. Golden and shinny, with his address and name too.

"Do you like it?" Rain asked in a soft voice.

Ciao leaned his head in to take a closer look.

"Mm...looks very expensive." He observed. "Have you showed it to Duarte yet?"

"No." The hummingbird nodded.

"Ah, we best go." He took a little jump to the rim of the tiny garden and flew down, followed by Rain. "You know how sensitive he is about this things."

It was quite a small greenhouse, and they didn't took more than a few seconds to reach their friends window.

Duarte was an old bird. A Hawk, american. Wise and slow, he said he would never be the same after he had crashed into a lamppost. And with that, he had lost almost al capacity to fly.

And that shouldn't happen to a bird.

He was sleeping, his claws, gripping as though he was catching a mouse in the open field. Rain and Ciao looked at each other in silence.

"Is he dreaming?"

"Ay..." The parrot sighed, "Dreaming of those glorious days where he would fly over the mountains in America."

"America." she repeated in a whisper.

The hawk closed his claws and opened one eye. Then, standing up he looked around in confusion.

"Uh, where did he go?" He asked, his low voice, too kind in tone to be scary un the slightest.

"Go?"

"That mouse..." Ciao and Rain remained quiet when he looked down, still looking fir the imaginary mouse. Then he looked up with a bright smile. "Miss Rain...you have a bracelet."

He exclaimed, making the hummingbird proudly fly to display it.

"With inscription." She added.

"My..." Duarte sighed with joy. "How time does fly."

"It seems inly yesterday she was bumping into the glass of our windows." Ciao joined his buddy. "And now, there she is, every inch a lady."

Although there were not many inches, Rain modeled her silver ornament on the window's reflection.

"Bearing the greatest honor a man can give a bird."

"And it looks beautiful on you."

Their chat was interrupted when they heard a whistle in the corridor. Rain flew up.

"It's Josue." She pointed, and flew swiftly through the opened window and into the greenhouse, just to stop mid way and return. "Please, excuse me."

And her wings took her off to her own window.
