I'm running through a field of flowers with colorful pedals, with the sun beaming down on them. I can hear the birds and watch the butterflies fly around me. Just butterflies, no walkers. I stop running and look around me, behind me there is a small town. My town. Soon, I recognize where I am, I'm home. I look at the people wondering the town, everyone knew one another. The town I lived in was small and friendly, we were all one big family almost. I was in the park, right by the market. I look over at the swing set an find my brother swinging so high, it would be seconds until he flipped a three sixty. I look by the slides and see my mom, she was laughing while Mikey giggled when the swing bouned before falling backward. My mother sees me watching and lightly pats the spot next to her on the bench. I run towards her and sit beside her, she did what she would usually do and tickled my sides until I was red in the face. We all laughed as we watched Mikey play. I look over at my mom, her icy Blue eyes smiling, her smile bright. I look over at Mikey, Chocolate Brown eyes squinting from the sunlight, long brown hair bouncing as he ran. Mikey runs up to us and hugs us tight, he grips my hand and mom's too. Then, the sun starts to brighten, and then I'm blinded by it.
I wake up with someone's hand gripping mine, after my vision goes back to normal, I look over at who it was. Carl.
"You're awake." He smiles.
"Yeah, I am." I look down at our hands.
He lets go "S-sorry." His cheeks go red.
"No, no" I grab his hand "it's okay."
He nods and we smile at each other.
"I'm-"
"Cass. I know. My father told me after you blacked out." He tells me.
"Oh, okay. Thank you."
He looks at me in confusion "For what?"
"For helping me and getting your dad, if you hadn't, I would of-"
"Please don't say it." He interupts "It's fine, you called for me, I wouldn't of noticed you if you never of called for help. You saved yourself." He tells me.
"Yeah, I guess. Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be in the garden?" I asked.
Carl paused and looked away from me before speaking "I refused to leave."
I raise my eyebrows "Why?" I asked, surprised.
He looked back at me, "I thought you'd like some company incase you woke up."
"Oh, thank you." I smile.
Carl stands and goes to the sink, he returns with a cup of water. "Drink this, you lost a lot of blood and you need water."
I nod and take the cup from him and drink. I gulp it down fast and hand it back to him.
"Thank you." I tell him.
He walks back to the sink and sits the cup on the counter. I start to sit up but he stops me.
"Whoa whoa whoa. You aren't gonna be out and about for a few days, you're too tired and need rest." He gently lays me back down.
My eyes narrow "You're tellin me, that I'm not allowed to leave this bed for days?"
Carl nods "I'm sorry, but at least I'll be here for company." He smiles.
"Oh yeah how exciting." I say, note the sarcasm.
"Ya know I don't have to be here. I could just go back to planting." He warns me.
"Sorry, but you know you wouldn't." I smile.
"Alright, you got me." He throws his hands up in surrender.
I knew after that that Carl and I were to become great friends, and we did. For the next few days we stayed in the medical room, Carl would go to get us something to eat, after he'd come back, we would steal each others food off our plates. We spent the days laughing and joking around, and the nights talking about life before the apocalypse, and falling asleep in each others arms. After the fifth day of being in that room with Carl, Hershel comes in.
"Hey, what's up?" Carl asks.
"I've just come to inform you two that tomorrow morning, I'll be in to get Cass and get her going again." He looks over at me "Just be more careful next time."
My eyes light up "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I beam and Hershel smiles.
"You're welcome Cassy. I'll be here to get you up in the morning, you two get some rest." He turns and walks off.
Cassy? I guess that's another nickname for me. Carl turns to me and hugs me for the first time. He was warm and I felt his heart beat faster. I smile and hug him back tight.
"Now you'll finally be able to get out of this place!" He laughs.
"Yeah, I'll kinda miss it though, you and I had some pretty fun times in here." I laugh.
Carl grips my hand "Don't worry, you and I will still have our fun. Always."
I smile and Carl gets into bed with me. We snuggle into each other and soon fall asleep.
