"Hey, wake up."

I groan

"Wake up."

I don't answer

"Wake up!"

I open my eyes "What Carl?!"

"You can get outta here today and Hershel will be here at any moment, wake up."

I nod and rub my eyes tiredly. Carl stands and looks at me.

"Well?" He asks.

I look at him confused "What?"

"Aren't you gonna stand up?" He asks.

"But my foot-"

"Your foot is healed." He interrupts "Now stand."

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I slowly swing my legs over and stand. Surprisingly, I didn't fall.

"See?" He asks

"Yeah, wow." I laugh.

"What do you mean wow? It's been a while since you fell." He says.

"Oh, I guess I hadn't noticed." I smile.

He laughs and stares into my eyes.

"What?" I raise an eyebrow

He shakes his head "Nothing, you're just..." He trails off.

"Just what?" I ask

But before he can say anything, Hershel appears.

"Howdy!" He beams anxiously. "How's about we try out that ankle?"

I laugh "Yeah."

Hershel and Carl help me walk a bit. Hershel lays a hand on my back, and Carl is holding my hand. I look over at Carl to notice his face flushed with red, Carl notices me looking at him and smiles. We walk over to the steps and I ask to try to manage on my own. Hershel nods and try both let me go. I look up at the stairs, a long fall it would be, but I take the first step. Then the second. Then the third. After a few more, I'm at the top. Carl and Hershel smile and applaud. Hershel and Carl walk up the steps and we all walk off into the main area of the prison, everyone smiles and runs to hug me. Maggie pulls me into a tight hug and pulls away before speaking.

"I'd like you to meet my sister, Beth."

Beth appears from behind her, and the memories began flashing through my head. Beth, is my best friend. Beth noticed too, she pulled me into a tight hug.

"I thought you were dead!" She yelled

"I thought you were too! Oh my god you're okay I'm so glad you're okay!" I beam.

We stay in place for a while until Beth pulls away, tears running down her cheeks.

"I missed you." She smiles.

I laugh "I missed you too."

I suddenly hear a door shut behind me and turn to see who it was. I look into those familiar brown eyes, and he looks into mine.

"Cassy, this is Daryl. Daryl this is-"

"Cassandra?!" He yells.

"D-Dad?" I ask just above a whisper.

He drops his crossbow, and runs towards me to hold me tight. He doesn't say anything, and neither do I. We just stay there, crying in each others shoulders. He pulls away but pulls me back in seconds later. After a while, we pull away and he cups my face.

"Look at you, you've grown up so much. Is your mother here? Mikey?" He looks around the room.

I put a hand on his shoulder and he looks down at me. His eyes then widen when he understands.

"They're gone, aren't they?" He asks, tears in his eyes.

I nod slowly.

"So you've been surviving on your own?" He asks

I nod.

He pulls me into another tight hug "Im so proud of you Cassy. You hear me? So proud. Momma would have been, too."

I pull away and nod "I know."

He smiles down at me, then Rick spoke.

"Wait, so Daryl, she's your daughter?" He asks.

My father looks over at him and nods "Why yes she is." He smiles.

Rick grins "Well, I guess you already were part of the family after all."

"Yeah, I guess so." I laugh.

Rick nods and my father looks back at me "What's your weapon?" He asks.

"Katana." I answer.

Dad frowns "Never used a crossbow, huh?" He asks.

I shake my head.

"We'll I'll just have to show ya." He smiles.

I nod and smile back at him. We talk a bit before he needs to go in watch. I sit outside and eye the walkers, wondering how their life was like before. Carl approaches me and sits beside me.

"Hey."

"Hey."

"So, he's your father?" He asks.

"Yeah, he is. He left when I was born, and now he is the only family I have left." I answer.

"No. You have us. Cassy, we may not be family by blood, but we are still a family. No matter what." He puts an arm around me.

"Thank you." I tell him.

"For what?" He asks

"Keeping me company, and being there for me." I tell him.

He smiles "No problem. It was my pleasure, you're amazing to chill with."

I began to laugh.

"What?" He asks

"Chill Carl, really?"

He laughs "Hey! It's not that bad."

I laugh even harder "Oh, it's bad."

Carl shoves me lightly and I look over at him. I push him to the ground and he laughs "Im gonna get you now!"

"Gonna have to catch me first!" I tell before running off.

I look behind me to see Carl already catching up to me, damn was he fast. I run faster, ignoring the pain in my legs. I turn to see Carl jump for me and tackle me onto the ground. We laugh loudly until we couldn't breathe.

"We'll I gotcha." He laughs

"Oh really? I had no clue." I laugh.

Carl smiles and stares into my eyes, we were both still lying on the ground. I stare back into his as he slowly leans in. I feel his hot breathe on my lips but he pulls away as Rick calls his name. He helps me up before running over to his dad. Leaving me with my thoughts of what the hell just happened. And why the hell was I falling for my best friend.
