ALL CAPS=MATT TALKING
Regular=Riley talking
Everyone in Mr. Wright's class groaned. Another pop quiz. As he handed out the WW2 quiz, I saw the secretary, Ms. Ellis, walk in. Behind her was an unfamiliar boy. He had brown, shaggy hair and looked a little exhausted. Ms. Ellis talked to Mr. Wright. When they were done, she left, leaving the mysterious boy.
UGH. THE FIRST DAY OF A NEW SCHOOL. IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AS BAD IF IT HAD BEEN THE FIRST DAY OF THE YEAR, BUT IT WASN'T. I WAS STARTING AFTER THIS SCHOOL HAD BEEN IN SESSION FOR TWO MONTHS! I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT MY PARENTS WOULD DUMP ME HERE. THE SECRETARY IN THE OFFICE OPENED THE DOOR TO THE ROOM, TOOK ME IN, AND LEFT.
Mr. Wright led the boy to the only empty seat. It was in the back of the room, right by me. I sat in the left corner, and the big sat to my right. I turned my attention to the quiz that laid in front of me. "Since you haven't been here, you can just read it something, just stay quiet," Mr. Wright said to the boy. "What was your name again?" Mr. Wright asked. "Matt," the boy answered. Mr. Wright went back to his dance.
THE TEACHER TOLD ME TO SIT IN A DESK THAT WAS RIGHT NEXT TO A GIRL WITH RED HAIR THAT WAS SHORT. WHILE I WAS SITTING, SHE KEPT GLANCING UP AT ME EVERY FEW SECONDS. I TRIED NOT TO NOTICE, BUT I COULDN'T HELP BEING CURIOUS. WAS MY HAIR MESSED UP OR SOMETHING? I FINALLY DECIDED TO JUST TURN THE OTHER WAY AND LOOK AROUND THE CLASSROOM A LITTLE BIT.
The bell rang, and I quickly left. That was the last class today. I headed our of the school and went to my favorite bench, close to the woods. It was calm and peaceful there. I sat on the bench and pulled out my sketch pad. I was drawing a red-tailed hawk. "What are you doing?" a voice asked. Before I could answer, my book was snatched from my grasp. I looked up at Alex. He was a football player. A jerk. "Give it back, Alex," I demanded, standing up. Alex shove me back down and flipped through my book. I wanted to punch him.
THE CLASS I HAD WALKED IN ON WAS THE LAST CLASS OF THE DAY. I LEFT THE ROOM AND WENT OUTSIDE. I DIDN'T KNOW HOW BOARDING SCHOOLS WORKED, SO I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WE DID ABOUT EATING OR WHERE I WAS GOING TO BE STAYING OR ANYTHING. I JIST DECIDED TO FOLLOW WHAT EVERYONE ELSE WAS DOING. I LOOKED TOWARD THE BENCH AND SAW THE GIRL I HAD BEEN SITTING BY IN CLASS AND WATCHED AS A BIG GUY I HADN'T SEEN BEFORE WALKED UP TO HER. HE WAS BEING A REAL JERK TO HER, SO I STARTED WALKING THAT WAY TO TRY TO GET HIM TO LEAVE HER ALONE. THAT WAS A BIG MISTAKE.
I was about to punch Alex in the face. Alex caught my wrist and looked like he wanted to punch me. "Hey, leave her alone," a voice said. Alex let go and turned around to face Matt. Where did he come from? "Excuse me?" Alex asked. "Just give her the notebook back," Matt calmly said. Alex punched Matt right in the jaw. I gasped and stood up I kneed Alex in the stomach. "Run!" I told Matt. He ran behind me as I ran into the school.
