CHAPTER ONEFATHER HAD ONCE TOLD ME if I ever find myself in the abyss of the ocean, I must remain calm. Thus, when a rush of water began to trickle down my throat, I did.
My breaths were agonizingly painful and terribly short. In the haste of the moment, I began to kick as an attempt to push myself out of the water, and yet again I was submerged by the water swirling around me, crushing me.
It was the magic's doing, I was certain of it.
For one to reach another kingdom would take nearly half of their lives. The rulers of each kingdom were aware of it. Thus, a portal was their perfect decision to make. They created a limit hence visiting wouldn't be a routine, and what I was experiencing would be a way for them to limit the usage of portals.
Pressure was pushing against me from every side, and the more I struggle, the further I go. I was sinking rapidly; my lungs were burning with their desperate desire for air. It felt as if thousands of needles had been plunged into it.
Every muscle in my body ached in protest as I struggled reaching towards the surface.
Bubbles surrounded me as I swam, fighting for every last bit of air. And yet, I struggled to keep my head above the watery grave which swallowed me whole.
Until I felt a fingertip reaching towards me to grasp, and I did.
I gasped for air, coughing the water that had filled my lungs as a hand pulled my figure into a hard surface.
It took several moments before the coughing stopped and I was faced by a man with a crooked nose. A glint of enchantment danced around his wide eyes as he peered at me with awe and a parted mouth.
Was I astonished? Not quite.
My beauty is a gift from the gods I cherish the most, thus, enchanting their melodies of heart would be the least of my concerns. Although, many claimed the gift from gods came with a price of a weakness, and I was blinded by a self-obsession.
Conceited they say, and I couldn't agree more.
I ignored his presence and my eyes began to wander throughout the area, observing what lays upon my eyes.
A ship fashioned by an ancient oak appeared in front of my facade. It remained floating on sea near the wooden plank where we remained, creating waves of its own.
I began to notice that I had been descended into a harbour near the Kingdom of Basillus.
"Camryn!" A faint voice shouted from the distance and I immediately whipped my head towards its direction. The sight of a lanky figure walking from a distance came into view. His face was illuminated in a tangerine by the torch in his firm grip.
From what I could assume, a figure he was dragging against the ground, would perhaps be the reason why his mouth contorted into a sly grin.
"Look what I found!" He declared, followed by strings of laughter but it was immediately cut short when he captured the sight of me.
His jaw dropped and I dipped my head down, a satisfied smirk curled against the brink of my lips. Perhaps enchanting two at ones would be an advantage I needed.
