"...bay...AQHA gelding...2 years old...just started...$10,000! Oh my gosh! Nope...ooh! Chestnut...AQHA mare...3 years old...20 days under saddle...$5,000! Perfect!" I thought as I read through the sale posts. I stared at the post and walked up stairs with my computer in my hands. It was 11:00am as I looked at the time on the computer screen.
"Mom! Dad! I think I found the perfect horse!" I exclaimed. I ran over to my dad to show him, he nodded and really had no idea what I was talking about. So I ran over to my mom and showed her the mare. She smiled and nodded.
"Who is her sire and dam?" She asked. I read through the post one more time.
"Her father is Certainly A Vision and her dam is a by Gucci Only!" I said. My mom clapped. She read through the post and put the phone number that was on the post into her phone. She then began to text the owner.
"Can you go for a trail ride with your sister? She's been wanting to go but your father doesn't want to ride and I have to do work around the house" said my mom. I nodded and called out for my sister.
"Lila!" She came running down the stairs. I asked her if she wanted to go for a trail ride! She smiled and agreed. I grabbed a blue sweat shirt with a hoof print on it. My sister, 12 years old, so 3 years younger than me looks nothing like me. She has brown hair, chocolate brown eyes and she has dimples when she smiles. Me, I have blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. We also don't really get along. I try to be nice to her, but we argue, I still love her though. Lila has always shown on my mother's expansive show horses, she's never wanted to ride her own horse or let alone show one, yet last year, she finally asked for her own horse. Not a show horse though, a horse from a rescue. I've always admired her after that for wanting to save a horse. Her horse's name is Kit, a 14 year old bay roan QH cross mare rescued from the meat truck. Lila mostly just does trail rides with her and brushes her. She's a real sweet mare though. Just like a big teddy bear.
"I take it your riding Kit?" I asked.
"Yeah, who are you riding?"
"I'll probably ride one of the lesson horses, either Danny or Joker" I said as I opened up the front door to sunshine. "Yay, it's warm out" I thought as I stepped outside. My sister and I walked towards the boarding/lesson barn. Kit stood outside in one of the smaller paddocks, right next to Joker. "Might as well go get him" I decide as we walk towards the two.
"So, have you picked out a horse to train yet?" Asked Lila. I smile.
"Yeah, actually there was a chestnut mare for sale. She's only 3 and just started. I'm excited! I told mom about her, I think she might be the one!" I exclaim. Lila grabbed Kit's black nylon halter and lead her to the boarding barn. I grabbed Joker's green nylon halter and followed right behind Lila and Kit. I put him on the cross ties facing Kit and started brushing him down. His dark bay coat shined as I brushed it with a body brush. I tacked him up with one of our ranch riding saddles. I did up the breast collar and back cinch and quickly grabbed my helmet. I brought him outside and mounted up from the ground. Lila, already on her horse, started for the trails to the right of the stallion barn.
"Which trail? Long one or small one?" Asked my sister.
"Whichever one you want" I replied sloping back in the comfortable saddle. Lila and Kit began walking towards the longer trail and I guided Joker behind them. I began to think as Joker followed quietly behind Kit. "You know, I never truly realise how lucky I truly am" I thought as we walked on. My sister and I began to talk about the chestnut mare and about big shows and if we were going to show or not.
About an hour later, we reached home. I untacked Joker and put him away in his paddock. My sister stayed in the barn with Kit, grooming her and putting hoof ointment on her hooves.
"I'll be in the house" I said.
"Okay" she called back. I walked towards the house and stepped inside. My mom was vacuuming and my dad was washing the dishes. I waved hello. My mom saw me and turned off the vacuum.
"Hello sweetie! The owner for that mare texted back and said if we truly wanted her we could go up and get her this weekend" smiled my mom. A huge smile crossed my face and I jumped up in excitement.
"YES! YES!" I exclaimed. I ran across the room and hugged my mom tightly. I then ran downstairs to my room to change and plan for my mare.
