ima tell about the time that i almost died while camping :)
but here's some things that you need to know first. i have this tradition where i go camping in august for a week, before school starts, with a bunch of people. usually it's a friend or two and my aunt who's a bit older than me (we need someone to drive). what we do is, we close our eyes and point to a random state on the US map and we just go there. i forgot who thought of this, it was probably me though cuz i'm dumb as hell. but aye, guess what? yolo.
moving on, last year (2019) one of the people who were going picked pennsylvania (we also had to book a site like a month before the trip) it's about a 4 hour drive away from where i live so it took quite some convincing for my mother to let me go. now, to the actual story-at 2 pm on saturday we got all our stuff and a tent that could fit 6 people into my grandfathers truck, and lemme tell ya, it was pretty noice. so we started driving and once we got on the highway, we became regular teens. like those you see in cliche movies. blasting music and screaming driving on a highway during the sunset. it was awesome. we even made a stop at a beach for a break but had to continue going after a bit.
oh i forgot to mention this. my friends and i aren't those typical people to go camping. we don't go to family friend campgrounds where there are cabin and pools, nah. we in a frIcKen forest with nothing around for miles. not very smart when you in a group of 4 females that are age 13-15 and 23. plus, we all under 5'3. RIP
we got to the campgrounds later than we expected because traffic. it was about 8 pm and the sun was starting to set. we had trouble finding our area. basically how this place worked is, you have to book campsite way before your trip and then you have to get there, give em your information aaannnddd they didn't give you a map -_- just sayin, this place had mountains, about 5 waterfalls and hiking trails around. great start eh? it took us till 9 pm to find it. but we didn't complain and just used our brains and thought "we should probably set up the tent before it's wayyy too dark to see" and so we did, and we were all good :)
we did the usual things we did, this was our 4th time doing this so we knew what we were doing. started a huge bonfire, found the bathroom, set up our stuff in the tent, and started walking around to find our "neighbors" and made small talk. multiple people told us that there were bears around and that scared the living shit out of my friend so my aunt had to get bear spray. she's only 23 and 4'11 so she didn't want to go alone so i decided to go with. my two friends decided to make the food while we were gone so we could eat when we came back.
my aunt and i went to a random store we found and got more food, bear spray, sunscreen, bug spray, and more shit that we forgot to bring. when we came back, there were sandwiches waiting for us. yum
it was late and we had to get ready for bed, we asked one of the neighbors to watch our stuff for us while we went to the bathroom (the neighbors were very kind btw). at first, we were skeptical about the bathrooms even though this place had 4.5 stars but still, it could have been disgusting, surprisingly it was very clean and had hot water. we finished and walked back.
we couldn't scroll on our phones, we couldn't call anyone, we couldn't do anything on our mobile devices, so being idiots, what do we do? one of us had the PERFECT IDEA "let's go hiking" awww shit. here we go
