You and Kai were best friends since you were little kids. Now, both of you were in the last year of high school. The past few years were great, both of you were closer than ever until your feelings changed.

You started to catch feelings for him. You knew the consequences of having a boy best friend but you couldn't stop, your feelings grew as time goes. You were expecting all this to lead to a broken friendship and one heartbreak. You were right.

Kai, on the other hand, see you nothing more than just a best friend, maybe even a sister. To him, you were someone he would look up to and seek help in case of trouble. How sad.

You were placing unnecessary things in your locker when someone approached you.

"Hey, Y/n!" your best friend waved at you, you smiled at him until you notice someone behind him "I'd like to introduce you to someone special" he says and steps to the side to reveal a girl.

"Y/n, this is my girlfriend Jen" the moment you heard the word girlfriend, your smile fell to the fakest one you have ever made in your life "Jen this is Y/n, my best friend" he smiled.

That's all I'll ever be, you thought. His best friend.

"Hi!" his girlfriend stretched her hand out for you to shake. Gathering all your strength, you shake her hand, your smile not reaching your ears. "Hi."

"Y/n? Is something wrong?" Kai knew, he knew something wasn't right.

"I'm fi-" before you could finish your sentence, the bell rang indicating that classes are about to start. "I'll go now, class is about to start" your cheeks continued to hurt from all the fake smiles. Thank goodness, the bell rang you were thankful that he didn't get to witness the tears in your eyes as you walk away.

The whole day, you avoided Kai. Right now, you were sitting on your study desk at home failing to concentrate on your studies.

That's it, you decided to text Kai just incase he gets worried. Just as you grabbed your phone, it lit up showing a message from your best friend.

You immediately grabbed your jacket and headed to the park. Your body felt heavy today. Bringing the jacket was useless, you were sweating uncontrollably.

As soon as you set foot at the park, you see him sitting near a tall tree, his back facing you. You went to him and sat beside him.

Silence filled the air as both of you sat in the dark not even facing each other.

"Y/n.. What's wrong?" he spoke breaking the silence. You look down feeling ashamed of yourself.

"Please, tell me. Did I do something wrong?"

"It's not your fault" you breathe in looking out in the distance "It's mine" you finished.

"What do you mean?" he raised his eyebrows at you.

"Who am I to you, Kai?" this time you were facing him.

"You're my best friend, Y/n" he didn't even hesitate, that just proves it. You were ashamed of yourself for feeling this way, but what can you do?

"I love you, Kai. I love you not just as a friend but even more than that" as soon as you said that, he froze.

"Y-you love m-me?" he points to himself. You nodded and looked down on your hands that were on your lap.

Silence came again. You hated this, you hated yourself.

"I-I'm sorry, Y/n.." you closed your eyes, trying to stop the tears. You gulped and wince when you feel your throat hurt from trying to stop yourself from crying.

"I'm sorry, I can't return your feelings.. I-" you cut him off and finally looked at him

"It's fine" you smiled, your cheeks hurting again. "I knew this would happen anyways" you chuckle.

"I need to rest" you stood up. It was true, you were mentally and physically tired, you just wanted to go home and sleep.

"Wait-" you didn't let him finish and continued to walk away. You felt terrible for leaving him there but you didn't want him to see your tears falling again.

You blamed yourself all night. Is this it? Are we ever going to be the same again? You tried to sleep, you decided that in school, you'll go and speak to Jen, his girlfriend.

It was break time and here you were sitting in the bleachers with Jen, his girlfriend.

"I'm sorry, I'll go to Kai and speak to him-" you cut her off, you already told her about your feelings with Kai.

"No, it's ok. I just ruined our friendship, I don't want to ruin your relationship" you smiled at her. Jen was wonderful, you can see why Kai likes- loves her.

"Are you sure you're ok?" she asks again this time, she sat closer and rubbed your arms.

"I'm fine" you smiled. She nodded and looked down. "Please don't break his heart, he's very precious to me" you look at her.

"I promise" she smiles.

"It's not yours or his fault" you started "I'll get over it."

The conversation ended and you became good friends with Jen actually.

3rd Person's POV

"I spoke to Y/n this morning...at school" Jen says as she hugged Kai, her boyfriend.

"How is she?" he asks.

"She's hurting.." she starts and Kai looks at her "She said she'll get over it."

"She's amazing, you know? She's very understanding and even if she told me it wasn't my fault, I can't help but think it is."

Jen looks down

"Give her time" Jen looks up again.

"What?" Kai asks.

"Give her time to herself, she'll heal. Just wait and next thing you'll know, both of you are hanging out again like kids"

"Yeah.." he smiles and pecks her lips.
