Chapter 1

Luke's POV:

It's always fun walking home from work when it's pouring out and you can barely see. But it seems like this is the usual here in Washington. I don't even fully remember why I moved all the way out here for. All I know is that I wanted something new and different. And boy, did I get it.

I was almost to my apartment building now, and the wind started to pick up. That's the bad thing about umbrellas. They don't play nice with the wind. Plus the rain was coming from the direction toward me so I was holding it in front of me in a way.

I was starting to loose control of my umbrella now, which is very irritating after a long day at work. I grit my teeth and keep a tight hold on it.

I'm not even able to see where I am with the angle of my umbrella but I know I should almost be there by how long I've been walking.

Just as I'm taking another tight grip, I collide with something in front of me. It completely stops me in my tracks, and I move my umbrella to see.

I look in front of me to see a girl, who appeared about my age. If that's even enough, she is absolutely breath taking. She had on a grey beanie with her long amber colored hair braided to the side. Also she was wearing a black coat and boots. But the best thing was her eyes. They were so light it were as if they were crystals.

I hadn't noticed till now that I was in front of my building. I just couldn't take my eyes off of her. I watched her to see what she would do, or say.

"Oh hey sorry about that." She spoke, holding her umbrella in her right hand. I noticed that I must have bent it when we collided. "Yeah sorry about your umbrella." "It's okay. It happens all the time." And she held it out against the wind and just like that the wind had popped it back into place. "See all better." And she smiled. Her smile was absolutely incredible.

"So where were you heading?" I asked wanting to keep talking to this person. "I was actually just heading out for a walk." "In this weather?" I questioned since it wasn't exactly 'walking weather' out. "Yeah I love the rain. It's actually my favorite thing about Washington. " And she smiled again. "Oh." I nodded. "What about you?" She asked standing there beside me in front of the building. "I was heading home from work." I gestured toward the building. "Oh cool I live here too." It seems like the more she talks, the more her face lights up. "I'm Luke by the way." And I reached my hand out to hers. "Piper." She said shaking my hand.

Once we let go I went to go inside but there was something about her that was very intriguing to me. So I shut the door and jogged over to her, since she already started on her walk away. "Hey mind if I join you?" Again she smiled brightening up her face "sure."
