24. Great Scott!

It was raining. That was the first thing I noticed.

Not just ordinary rain where it was a light shower and you didn't mind walking through it. Even with your hood down. It was cats and dogs rain. The kind that you could drown in. And I felt like I was in too deep and trying to grasp for the surface and there was nothing to hold on to.

I deserved this. It was my own damn fault for letting my guard down and letting myself get to know these people. I knew it wasn't supposed to last. I knew I was going to travel back here eventually.

That's even if I was back to the right time. For all I know I could have fell further back in time. But my mind was all over the place, and I simply didn't care where or when I was.

I'll just stay here, kneeling on the grass, drenching myself in my own misery.

"Kelty!" I hear a muffled shouting from a distance but I don't bother to look up. I recognised the voice, but it seemed like a lifetime ago since I heard it.

I heard some squelching in the mud near by as if they were running towards me."Kelty, your soaking! You never told me it would be raining!"

Never told her what?

I felt a hand on my shoulder trying to pull me up. "Jeez, you're freezing!"

I resisted.

"Lets go Kelty! The cars on the road over there, I'll put the heater on for you"

I look up and see Anna's pleading eyes. And as soon as I did, my emotions just let loose. My tears got lost in the rain as I stood up and grabbed Anna with both arms and just sobbed into her shoulder.

"Let's go in the car for a heat and you can tell me all about it"

She pulled back slightly and began to walk us over to the small archway at the other side of the fountain courtyard.

She rubbed my shoulder and squeezed me to her side as we walked up to the small green Ford fiesta.

It looked so alien to me. I was so used to 1890 that I felt like I was in a foreign land.

Anna opened the passenger side door and let me slide down into the dry car. She closed the door and then let herself into the drivers seat.

"Aw man! It's so bloody wet! Let's get this heater on and back to Maybole"

Maybole?

Anna saw my puzzled expression. "Going to your mum's house, she knows we're on our way"

"She knows what exactly?"

"Well you and your car for that matter, disappeared off the face off this earth. And she told me you hadn't been picking up your prescription for your..."

"Wait a minute Anna! You know?"

"Well duh!" And she laughed. Laughed! I didn't see the funny side at all. "You were the one who told me to meet your here at Culzean at this time and date, although you could have mentioned the rain!" She pats her hair down in the mirror, but gives up and shakes the water off.

"But I never told you..."

"You haven't told me.....yet. Your future self did" And she grins. She turns the ignition on and turned the heating knob up full. The hot air was nice. I lay back and close my eyes as it passes over me.

My future self? Jeez. My head was already spinning from everything else, this was all I needed on my plate right now.

I sighed. I would talk to Anna later about this but right now, I just needed to keep my eyes closed and not think about anything for a while.
