The Sludge Incident

BOOM

I freeze in my stride, my breath hitching as I feel vibrations through the air and ground. I start to hear yelling ahead of me. I hurry towards the sound, careful not to run into anything as I get closer.

"What's happening?" A woman asks.

"A villain. The heroes can't get close enough because of that kid's quirk."

A villain? Who's holding a kid hostage?

Another explosion makes me jump, the faint sound of screams echo in my head.

"I can't get close!"

"We'll have to wait for a better suited hero to help!"

The kid... what's happening to him?

I take a few steps back from the crowd and calm my own breathing before I start focusing on the sounds around me. I skip past the people right in front of me and I narrow in on a rapid heartbeat farther into the alley. I can't hear his breathing.

He's being suffocated. I conclude.

"Hey! Kid! What are you doing!?"

"Get back here! It's dangerous!"

My heartbeat picks up as another runs towards the kid being suffocated, heartbeat just as fast. Then it gets slammed into a wall just as I hear a shout and thud.

I gasp, now there's two of them stuck. I should help but... I'll just add to the mess...

"Dammit! Now there's two kids we can't get to!"

"Where are the other heroes?"

Think Doll... you've been training for five years.

"Believe in yourself, Abe. You've worked hard to be where you are now."

Iida's words ring in my head, catching my breath and before I know. I push through the crowd and run into the scene.

"Not another kid!"

"Get back!"

"That's Abe Doll!"

"The blind girl?"

"Hey get back! It's not safe for you!"

I ignored them and ran towards the second boy who had run in before me. His heartbeat is steady, probably knocked out from the hit. I hook my arms under his shoulders and pull him back.

"The blind girl, eh?" I hear the villain say. "This will be easy!"

I drop the kid and jump to the side just as the villain goes to hit me. I roll back onto my feet and run towards the villain. Jumping and dodging his attack as I get closer to the kid being trapped. I grab a piece of cement from the ground and estimate my throw. A moment later I hear the villain cry out and the kid gasps for air. Very close to fainting.

I run up and my hands feel skin and cloth, I give a hard tug and the arm is pulled free.

"Use your quirk!" I say as I jump back to avoid another hit.

"Kacchan!" A shrill cry from behind me makes me jump and break concentration.

I cry out as I'm hit in the side, pain shooting through my arm. Shoot, my scab opened up!

I growl and push myself back up as the kid from before runs past me towards the villain and hostage kid.

"Get the hell away from me Deku!" Who I assume the kid trapped yells.

My breath hitches and I run towards them, grabbing the kid and I pull him back from the villain just as his hand comes down to crush him.

"Don't be careless!" I scold the kid before letting go of his arm to grab my own.
