Chapter 4

It was the afternoon of the "incident".
Alec had left the clinic and was on his way home, embarrassed of what had happened. "Shit shit SHIT"  he yelled slamming his fist onto the steering wheel. "God dammit, first I wipe the blood off him- when,,,when he was CLEARLY uncomfortable then I puke" he violently turned into his driveway. Alec stopped the car and rested his head on the wheel, breathing heavily. He stayed seated in his car for about an hour, angrily going over what had happened though this head again and again. "He'll never wanna treat me again!"
Meanwhile, Bill was still in his office. He'd just seen the last patient and was now alone. Of course Betty was there along with the other residents of the clinic, but in his office he felt secluded. He tried to focus on what he could research next, and how things were adding up with all the data he had collected over the years. He tried, but couldn't focus. The silence became deafening,  and his thoughts began to race. His oasis of a room became like an imprisonment. He never liked thinking about his feelings, he had always shoved them in a box and locked them up to be forgotten. But losing his children, Libby and Virginia was pushing him over the edge, breaking him slowly. Trying to get his mind to settle he skimmed over some papers and came across notes taken while talking to Alec. Just then a rush of anxiety came over him. How was he gonna talk to Mr Hardy tomorrow? "He's just a patient," Bill said in a whisper, annoyed at himself. Rubbing the bridge of his nose and closing his eyes he started thinking about how he would go on talking casually with him. "About yesterday- dont worry about it. Things- things happen" he mouthed while hearing it play out in his head.
"Christ" Bill mumbled to himself. "I'm acting like a school girl who made eye contact with her crush-"
"Crush?" He softly smiled at himself. "God this is insane- the man was clearly hungover, and a bastard eighty percent of the time" he said trying to reason with himself.
Storming out of his office he had gathered all this stuff up and was leaving. He had had enough alone time for the day. He was heading out to drink and watch football- at a bar of course, where he could feel close to others while also having personal space. Anything to keep him away from his thoughts.
"Doc?"
"Hm?"
"Where ya goin? There's no meetings today." Betty said looking at him skeptically.
"Ah- I'm leaving early."
"Le-leaving early? Doc, not to be butting in but"
"Then don't."
Sighing she rolled her eyes. "Look I'm not sayin it's bad- in fact it's good, but when's the last time you left early?"
"That doesn't matter."
"M'kay.."
"Yes well.. Anyways," he cleared his throat "did uh, Mr Hardy reschedule for tomorrow?"
"Oh ya about that."
"What about it?"
"Ya, I told him that I'd ask you about it"
"And?"
"Well you brought it up so that shows me that he wasn't lyin" she said grabbing the patient contact list.
"I'll give him a call now and schedule him for tomorrow"
Bill nodded and looked a little tense. Clearing his throat he nodded and almost smiled at Betty
. "Right well, goodnight Betty."
"Night doc, don't have too much fun"

Back at Alec's, Alec was working on a cold case. Something he liked to do to get his mind off what was bothersome. In the middle of his almost therapeutic session, his house phone rang. His tired eyes shot across the room, glaring at the noisy machine. Lazily and angrily he walked over to it and answered.
"Hardy."
"Hello Mr. Hardy was it?"
"This is he."
"Ya this is Betty, from Masters and Johnson's? I was just calling for scheduling an appointment for tomorrow."
"Oh emmm- okay?"
".....mhm- ok then, how does noon sound?"
"Em no I work tomorrow, is there a later time, like I dunno- 6?"
"Six?"
"Well that's what I said."
Sighing Betty scribbled down a note and scheduled him in.
"Six it is Mr Hardy."
"Oh em, ok" he said a little shocked that his time was ok.
"We look forward to seeing you" Betty said annoyed and monotone. Before Alec could thank or even say bye to her, she hung up.
"Tomorrow at six..." he repeated to himself while making a little note to help him not forget.
He was surprised that he was still wanting him as a patient.
Tomorrow was gonna be interesting.
