Nini's POV:
"Hey Ricky, good morning." I said cheerfully as a kissed his cheek and wrapped my arm around his when I saw him walk into school.
"Hey Nins, you excited for dance rehearsals today?" Ricky said knowing that I wasn't Gina and couldn't dance to save my life.
"Eh, not really, but we can do this choreography together. One for all and all for one." Ricky smiled at me.
"Hey! Were you the one who told Nini about my secret?!" E.J walked up to Ricky and angrily screaming in a very quiet tone as if he didn't want anyone to hear him.
"I don't know what you're talking about E.J." Ricky said letting go of my hand.
"For Fuck's sake! Stop lying Ricky! Stop being Mr. Perfect and getting Nini and the lead roles in the musical. Why the fuck did you look in my gym locker?!" E.J yelled as he punched Ricky dead center in the face.
"E.J! Get off of Ricky Please." Gina said in tears running through the main school doors.
"E.J Caswell to the front office please." Someone said loudly over the over the intercom.
Mr. Mazarra came over to Ricky and helped me get him to the nurse's office while E.J stomped off to the front office.
Later at lunch, I asked Gina to have a private chat at a different table. I think she knew what this was about because she looked scared and broken.
"Nini, I just wanted what was best for E.J I love him." Gina cried into my arms as she hugged me at a table in the back of the lunchroom.
As a good friend would, I hugged her back tightly and handed her some napkins from my lunch tray as tissues.
"Gina, I am really upset at you because you didn't tell anyone about the incident, but if it was Ricky, I would have done would you did. Very soon you need to tell someone because E.J cannot continue with this. It's really dangerous. I read online that he could die because of overdose." I said to Gina.
********
Gina's POV:
Since E.J's parents had a reputation with the East High Schoolboard he somehow didn't get expelled from school. During last period, he tried to talk to me since we had the same study hall, but I ignored him. He kept texting me all day saying he was sorry, but I ignored him. His last text said that he was benched during his water polo game and wanted to meet after, I still didn't respond.
At 5:30, which is the time when E.J's games start, I walked over to the girls locker room which was next to the boy's locker room. My plan was to sneak into the boy's locker room and look through his locker since I knew that all the boys were at the game. The locker room would be empty. I got E.J's locker combo from sneaking on his phone one day. If he can be mischievous I can be too.
A few minutes later when no girls or boys were in the hall, I ran into the boy's locker room with my hoodie and East High hat on ,covering my hair completely. I looked around the stinky locker room and found no one in sight, so I headed to E.J's locker. When I finally opened it, I didn't know what to look for. There was a change of clothes, deodorant, an extra water bottle, some gum wrappers and a bunch of other junk he jammed in there. At the bottom of the pile of his change of clothes, I found a vial of Prednisone, which I knew was a drug from health class. I quickly out it in my bag for proof and zipped it up before putting the locker back the way it was before. Thankfully, I walked out of the locker room unseen and unsure of what to say to my somewhat boyfriend.
After the water polo game was over, I saw E.J walk out of the school to the parking lot. I was going to confront him there and break up with him. Nini was right. I had to do this for his sake.
"E.J wait! Do you have something you want to tell me? I know what you have been keeping from me! E.J we need to talk right now! Don't walk away." I said as powerfully as I could.
"What do you want Gina?! I'm a fucked up screwed up mess of an only child. Leave me alone! I bet you told Nini my secret." E.J turned to face me as he was nearing close to me.
"No, you're not E.J. I just want to help you. Please let me. I love you."
"You don't love me Gina!"
"E.J you on steroids it's making you act like this." I said trying to get some sense into him.
"You have not only been lying to me but your whole team and your friends. We're over. I can't do this anymore. Drugs are not good for athletes or anyone at all. I know because my dad died from a overdose. Please do the right thing and be honest. Tell coach or I will." I was on the verge of tears because I still cared for him.
"Don't you dare!" E.J said grabbing my arm tightly and holding it.
"E.J that hurts. Please you need help." I was now crying.
I managed to let go of his grip and ran as fast as I could to the main offices sobbing. I saw Nini in the halls talking to her mom on the phone, probably about staying later for rehearsals and kept running.
When I reached the Principal's office. One light was still on which was Principal Santo's. I rapidly knocked on the door, frantically.
"Ah, Miss Porter, my star student, come on in. I'm just packing up from the water polo game. Go Wildcats!"
"I have to report a drug abuse." I said as confidently as I could managing to hold back my tears.
"Have a seat."
"E.J Caswell your star athlete has been on Prednisone, a drug that athlete's use and abuse to strengthen their performance." I said taking the vial out of my backpack.
"Now Miss Porter, this is a serious matter, are you sure it is E.J Caswell's? I recall that he is also your boyfriend."
"He's been really moody. At the winter ball I caught him throwing up in the men's room. He didn't even remember to pick me up from the house the girls and I were at. He's super peppy at times and I thought it was because of his college acceptance. He hurt my friend Ricky this morning. I think that these are side effects of the drug. It's not a coincidence that East High has been winning water polo games." I repeated what Natalie said to me as I was biting my nails.
"Wow. Thank you so much for telling me. I'll have a call with Coach Ramos tonight then. E.J will be suspended for a month and I will expel him from all school activities too. No musical or sports. I also need to talk to his parents. Thank you for telling me Miss Porter. Have a good night." The principal said opening the door for me to leave.
As I was walking down the hall to my locker, I saw Nini still on the phone. Tears started springing to my eyes and then a flood of tears came. I couldn't hold it back. I felt guilty for ruining E.J's scholarship and water polo position. Why me?! Why did I have to date the messed up, insecure rich guy, why wasn't my dad in my life?! Where's my mom when I need her?! Why did I even date E.J?
"Oh Gina, I'm so proud of you for what you did." Nini said wrapping her arms around me again.
"Why can't I have a perfect boyfriend like you and two parents?"
"Shhh shhh Gina, it's been a long day. I'll grab us some Starbucks to-go and drop you off at Ashlyn's." Nini said taking my hand and grabbing some tissues from her backpack to clean my face up."
"Thank you Nini. You don't have to do this for me."
"I insist, we are best friends. You me, Kourt, and Ashlyn. The Badass Wildcats."
"Nice group name. I didn't know you were thinking of that name." I said finally, slightly smiling at her.
"Hey, I didn't know you were so bad ass either." I nudged Nini.
"Nini 3.0?" I said forgetting about the day's problems.
"No newer Nini. It's just regular old Nini. Let's go get those Starbucks Fraps before they close." Nini said leading me to the parking lot smiling at me.
