Chapter 16: Once In Lifetime

The dull light creeped in from underneath the closed door. The only sounds that filled the room were the constant beeping of Kristopher's heart monitor, and his soft rhythmic breathing as Kaylee sat, perched in a chair in close proximity to his bed. Her hands clenched and elbows resting on her thighs as she looked at the sleeping/ unconscious boy in front of her. The boy looked so fragile as if you went up to touch him he would break, or maybe it was because she hasn't been in contact with her love in 3 months. Whatever the reason she couldn't stop staring. The words of the doctor floating around her head as she stared at the sleeping boy. She sighed softly and rose to her converses up to his bed, carefully sitting on the edge one leg tucked up under her as the other dangled. "Who knew the next time I saw you would be in a hospital." She giggled slightly as she looked at him. "Doctors say you brained yourself pretty hard when you fainted. Gave yourself a minor concussion." She informed the "sleeping" boy on the bed as she shook her head, her fingertips running over her plumping belly. "I'm 3 months now, incase you didn't know." She scratched her head, listening to the beeping of the monitor beside him. "I was thinking of Harper or Louis if it's a boy and Sailor or Kendra if its a girl. Of course, I won't name them without your input on his or her name." She smiled softly, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. She sniffed lightly "Kris, I know I basically cut you off without a second glance but I had to do what's best for my baby..our baby. I'm keeping him or her no matter what you say.." She said as a stray tear fell from her brown eyes and down her cheek. "What was I supposed to do? You called me out my name. You even hit me. I-I had to do what was in my best interest." She choked out, her tears now falling steadily down her cheeks. She sighed and ran her fingers up and down his arm gently, she felt his skin goosebump as she came into contact with him. "I still love you. I love you so much. Your the father of my child and I wouldn't have it any other way." She smiled softly. "I'm just not sure if I want to be with you right now. Maybe over time, but not right now." She spoke softly listening to the sound of his heart monitor going with each beat. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." A tear slid down her cheek as she leaned forward and kissed his forehead, it landed on his cheek. "See you soon." Kaylee whispered in his ear as she grabbed her bag and slid off the bed, closing the door with a soft click.

As she left the room, her tears ceased to stop. What had she just done? What had she just said? Did she just break up with her love? Did she just fuck up? She leaned against the wall and slid down on her butt her face buried in her hands as she cried. "What am I doing?" She sobbed to herself as her body quaked with sobs. "What am I doing?" She repeated over and over.

Back in the room, Kristopher's eyes had opened. He heard every word his love spoke. It was his fault. He should have never said the things he said or did the things he did. He messed up. He sighed out loud, and blinked away the tears that were rapidly filling his eyes. "What am I doing?" He asked himself softly. "How am I going to fix this?" He wondered outloud. He can't lose her. That's the mother of his child and hopefully one day his wife. He has to fix this, no matter how long or how hard it is, he's gonna fix it.
