Chapter 1

****

No matter how fast I ran, I seem to keep pushing myself; faster and faster until I finally break, im so tired and weak, I collapse on the ground. Its a rush, I couldnt imagen anything better than the cold win hitting my face, it made me feel some what alive, in control.

Hard to describe unless you've done it and know I guess; its the kind of thing you have to feel to know how it works, I suppose;

I was running down the trails, I didnt know what time it was, after 9? It was dark out, extremely dark.

Do you know how dark it is in a horror movie? You know the moment the dumb blonde runs outside, its so dark out you can barley see anything or anyone unless you have a light? Yeah; The creepy, horror dark, that leaves chills running down your spine, the burning feeling you get in your gut when you walk around alone, thinking someones going to jump out and shank you.

I normally feel that. Every single time I walk down the trails, I think im going to get jumped or mugged; guess its what I get for going down the trails at such a late hour anyways, but I dont really care. Not like im going to get hurt or anything right?

And besides even if someone did try, I'd run. Not like you really could do anything to begin with if someone actually tried... you'd be screwed, and thats all there is to it.

Finally, after running for who knows how long, I made it. Our spot...

Hidden behind a bunch of trees and bushes was our fort; way up in the tree was our home, the place where we hung out a lot, to get away from everything and everyone. Hes usually here before I am though. Boy was he fast! He always goes out for cross country and track.

Almost every single time he gets in the top 20. No wonder he beats me here! I knew he was alot faster then me, but still, its hard to race against a trained runner.

"BOO!" I heard a voice scream, then a figure popped out, hovering over me.

My feet gave out from under me, and I was falling. I couldnt help the girlist scream that excaped my mouth. I didnt expect it; landing on my ass, I groaned while looking up at him. He was laughing his ass, trying to gasp for air. "It aint funny! What the hell!?" I screamed at him.

His brownish- blonde hair was pushed to the side, left. He had the most goofiest grin plastered on his face, I knew I couldnt be mad at him then; His ocean blue eyes were sparkling, almost; he looked happy for once. He was wearing a black sweater, correction, his favourite black sweater. Under that was his grey shirt, the one he always wore here. His shorts were grey too, and went a little past his knees, showing off his huge leg muscles.

He wore the same shoes as always, black with yellow lining, and laces. He was the same as always, here at the fort. But I wouldnt have it any other way. I'd stay here forever with him if I could.

"You should of saw your face!" He laughed.

I grunted, wiping the dirt off my pants. "Yeah, hilarious," I muttered.

He held his hand out to me, and I gladly took it. Standing up, I wiped the rest of the dirt off my pasnts, especially my ass, where I fell. "Im sorry! I couldnt help myself!" He smiled in the dark. He wasnt sorry, I knew he wasnt. But it was alright, I would of done the same.

"No your not!" I growled at him, smacking him in the shoulder playfully.

Kyle Eads... my best friend. He moved here from California a few months ago; It shocked me how well we got along, whats even more shocking, he wanted to be my friend! Me, Luce, short for Lucinda, Robbinson, one of the most... well I cant even say unknown, cause no one knows me, person; Its just... shocking! He could be so popular, but yet he hangs with me.

Its nice though, to know I have someone, so im not alone.

I guess I better tell you who I am before I go on. My names Lucinda, but I go by Luce. Im 16 years old, I have black hair and big brown eyes. I go to highschool and I live with my parents and 3 other kids. "Luce?" He muttered waving a hand in front of my face.

Then suddenly I felt my feet being lifted in the air, the blood rushed down to my head as he held me above his head. I yelped, hitting his back, hoping it would make him let go. "Let me down, let me down!" I screamed at him.

He just laughed, walking over to our tree house. "Not unless you say im the most awesomest person in the entire world!"

"Thats not even a word!" I scowled at him.

He laughed even harder, and then stopped. "Say it!" He threatened.

I groaned. "No!"

"Fine, then im not letting you down!" He sounded seriously; he moved around in a little circle, bending up and down ocasionally, no doubt to try and freak me out. I groaned again. Curse him! Why did he have to do this?

"Fine! Your the most awesomest person in the entire world!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. Why? Why me? He will be the death of me! "No! You have to say KYLE is the most awesomest person in the entire world!" I sighed. Course! Course he'd make me say that...

"Kyle is the most awesomest person in the entire world!" I muttered in defeat. He set me down, smirking at me. "I know! I know, I just cant help it," He told me.

I knew he was joking around, but still, I had to roll my eyes at him; Walking over to our tree fort, I started climbing to get to our spot. He knew what that meant; he started following behind me. Soon as I got to the top, I sat on the edge waiting for him.

"Let me see Luce," He whispered. His voice was demanding, full of concern. I couldnt bare to look at him, he knew. He always knows when I am or not; Getting off the edge, I moved inside the tree house. It wasnt like a real house, but it was good enough.

We were lucky enough to find an outdoor plug near by, so we can heat it up if its ever cold outside. Which most of the time, we did. If one of us had to stay the night, we both stayed. Thats why we always stocked blankets and food.

A home away from home; to block off the cold, we had a door that could open and shut, even lock! The walls were wood, but they still held, which was the point. Inside was small, but it was do able. We could both sleep inside and there was still room for more.

"Luce," He muttered again. I couldnt take it anymore, running outside, I grabbed ahold of the swinging rope; We had a swinging rope tied to a tree to get down. It comes in handy instead of climbing, takes less time.

I fell down, letting the rop go. I ran, and ran as fast as I could. I didnt care where I was going, I just kept running; I ran until made it to the fence.

To make it to the trail you have to hop the fence, so I had to hop it to get back. But I couldnt find the strength too. I grabbed ahold of the fence, trying to breath. I had to be strong. I couldnt cry, I wouldnt cry. Crying was for the weak, and I wasnt weak.

The ait hitched in my throat, and I was choking. The tears were too much to hold back, they ran down my cheek like rain falling down from the sky. I couldnt stop myself from shaking.

The pain in my chest was unbearable, it stung me into silence. I couldnt even breath; A pair of arms suddenly wrapped around my waist from behind. "Its okay Luce," Kyle muttered softly.
