It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon when I decide to take a stroll at the nearby park since its a good day to walk around or sit by the swing and observe how the trees sway as the wind blows and as the dead leaves slowly drift into the air falling to the ground, even children enjoying themselves around the playground and people getting along and having a picnic.
I get dressed wearing my oversized black shirt that prints swag in bold and colorful letters and my leggings and pair it with my black Nike Roshe shoes. I stand by the mirror and take in my image and when I feel satisfied with my appearance I walk outside my grandparents' house and into the warm pavement of the street where the sun doesn't seem to get exhausted with shinning, as fresh as I was in the house I start to sweat once I reach the corner leading to the park and wipe my perspiration off with my handkerchief.
It takes only three to four minutes to the park and I immediately take in the warm breeze that embraces me as I walk around finding a good spot to sit that has enough shade for me. Once I feel comfortable in my little space of solace I open the book that I've forgotten I brought along with me and open the page as to where I stopped reading.
Time flew by fast and the sun slowly begins to set, I then decide that I want to sit by the swing seeing as this was the only time that the swing was vacated. I take small steps going to the swing set since the sound of dried leaves against the soil while I stride along the trail seemed satisfying, I took my time.
I take my place on the swing and constantly look around and observe the scenery as simple as it was, the park, and the sight of everything around just brought comfort and relieves me from the current stress from life. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, inhale and exhale slowly letting all the negativity out as my feet slowly make friction against the sand from the ground below me going forward and backward in motion calming me more as I already am.
I close my eyes and breath in the freshness of the air into my young lungs then open my eyes when I suddenly feel something touch against my foot, I then see a basketball and question where it came from, a boy not younger than me but I think my age with a thin build of body frame comes walking towards my direction. My instant reaction is to get the ball and give it to him and I do so, he takes the ball from me,
"Thanks,"
The boy says and I just smile and nod at him as I plan to head back to the swing the boy walks back to his friends who are waiting for him to head on back to him and I do so walk back to the swing and sit there now giving my attention at the boy playing with his four friends.
Making sure I don't seem creepy I look at the sky and see the pale tint of orange deciding that I should go head on home before my grandma looks for me and starts to worry. I start to walk away from the swing and away from the park when I stop to hear someone shout from the top of that person's voice,
"Take care on the way home!"
I look at from where that voice came from to see that the boy I gave the ball to was waving his hand goodbye and looking at me along with his friends just waiting for him to start playing. I ignore him and start walking back home as my cheeks start to heat up and my insides start to fluter, for some reason I was feeling this was weird cause this is my first time feeling this sort of thing.
Entering a yet quiet house, with Granny probably taking a nap upstairs in our room cause we share a room and I feel safe when we sleep in the same room even though we have five extra rooms in this house and two bathrooms I still prefer that I sleep in one room with Granny. I walk into the living room and grab the remote from the table and start watching television. I try and keep my attention to the series that I'm watching but to my avail, my thoughts keep lingering to the boy I just met but I remembered how he was a complete stranger and that I shouldn't really take things seriously or something.
"Where have you been sweetheart? I've made dinner already do you want to eat?"
I smile and stand up about to approach the fragile yet strong woman in front of me and slither my hand around her waist and plant a kiss on her forehead and she smiles as I do so.
"Hay, lola don't worry about me. I just went for a walk in the park."
Granny Cynthia just shakes her head and looks me in the eye and says,
"Anak, I will always worry about you even if you tell me not too,"
I just smile while I assist her walking to the kitchen table and set her seat just for her as I sit across her she looks at me with a questionable look as her wrinkles show off her emotions for her but her beauty remains still.
"Lola, May gusto po ba kayong sabihin sakin?"
She just avoided eye contact and started eating her food quietly letting the sound of the clattering spoon and fork echo around the table. As we both finish our dinner I stand up and walk to her across the square table and help her up.
"Anak, aakyat na muna ako sa kwarto pagod na kasi ako eh, baka pwede hatiran mo nalang lola mo ng tubig mamaya?"
I just smile and nod as she makes her way along the small corridor to the stairs where her room awaits her. For me, I clean the table and wash the dishes for Granny and keep the extra food in a container and keep it in the refrigerator for tomorrow. And remember to get water for Granny before I go back to the room.
I grab her favorite glass from the cupboard and get water from the container that isn't cold cause she really doesn't like to drink cold water after she eats. I walk along the small corridor and slowly up the stairs careful not to make the water go to waste and open the door to my right and I see Granny sitting on the bed wearing her giant reading glasses as she reads her prayer booklet while holding her rosary. I enter the room and place the glass down on her side table beside her side of the bed. I walk to my side of the bed and look at my side of the table and look for another book to read since I'm done reading the book I had a while ago but then I feel the need to close my eyes and begin to rest.
"Good night po,"
I say to my Granny as she looks at me smiling and leans over to my side of the bed and kisses me on the cheek.
"Good night anak,"
