Chapter Nine
Third Person POV:
Zach woke up in a room on a firm mattress with a fluffy pillow under his pounding head. He waited awhile while his eyes adjusted to the dark room. Why did his head feel so groggy? There was a desk in one corner and a dresser with a built in mirror on the wall to the right of the bed he was laying on.
He sat up slowly, careful of his head, and looked at the clock. It was 5 in the morning! Why the heck did he wake up so early? It was still dark outside, and he couldn’t remember what happened last night. Why was he in this room? He didn’t recognize it.
He stood up and grabbed his head. Gosh, why did he have such a headache? He tried to holler hello, but all that came out was a raspy, whispering sound. He needed a drink! His throat was so dry!
He slowly wobbled to the door and down the hallway. He had to stop a couple of times and hold onto the wall because he would get dizzy spells. He journeyed on, though, and followed the smell of coffee to the kitchen. In there, he found Blake and Jared making coffee and scrambled eggs with bacon. Amber was cleaning off the table for a place to eat and read the newspaper. Karen was busy drinking orange juice and telling them a story. Zach guessed it was from last night.
Last night….. what happened last night, exactly? All Zach remembered was coming to Amber’s house last night for a party. He remembered he had drunk a lot too. The rest of the night was pretty fuzzy.
Zach cleared his throat and looked around the room awkwardly as all their heads turned to him. “Looks like someone finally woke up,” Blake said as he turned back to cooking the bacon. It was awkwardly silent for a few moments; the only sound was the bacon and eggs sizzling.
“How ya feeling?” Amber asked innocently after a little. Zach had a feeling something was going on. Why would they be nice to him? He was never nice to them, well after he started hanging out with Emily. “Drink,” he barely whispered as he pointed to his throat. Amber quickly got up and handed him a glass of orange juice.
He drank it quickly and cleared his throat ready to ask his questions. “Why am I here?” he asked. Jared turned around and looked at him shocked. “You don’t remember? Wow…. I thought you would remember something like that.”
Karen shook her head in disbelief as she finished her orange juice. What was going on? “What do you mean, you don’t remember? Am I missing something?” Zach asked. “Obviously,” Karen snorted. Amber quickly glared at her shutting her up. Seriously, what was going on, Zach thought?
“Why don’t you sit down, Zach. We need to have a little talk about last night,” Amber told Zach acting like he was 5 years old, while she pulled a chair away from the table, so he could sit. Zach sat in the chair looking around confused. Karen gave him a plate of eggs and sizzling bacon with a cup of coffee and orange juice, not having eye contact with him at all. Then she got a plate of food for herself.
