5 years later
Marigold was wakened by a tapping at her window. The young princess sleepily climbed out of bed and opened her window. A small rock flew into her bedroom almost hitting her. She looked out her window. "Who's there?" She whispered loud enough for whomever it was to hear her. A young peasant boy no older than ten stepped out from behind a bush. The princess smiled. "Thomas what are you doing up so late?" She asked the young boy.
"I came to wish you a happy eighteenth birthday Princess Marigold Of The Southern Else," Thomas said bowing deeply. Marigold laughed.
"Thomas how many times must I tell you and the other children to call me Marigold." She smiled down at the young boy. Princess Marigold was unlike many princesses during that era. She was often found in peasant clothes , much to her parents dismay, out in the small village playing with the children and speaking to their parents as if she herself had no noble blood coursing through her veins. She was a friend to all children, woman and man that accepted her as one of them. She despised when she had to act as if she were better than her village people for in truth she was just like them.
Marigold laughed again "Come out children I know you're all there." She softly commanded. Four more children came out from behind the same bush Thomas was hiding in.
"Hello Princess," Thomas' younger sister, Hope, who was only six greeted "I lost my first tooth!" She happily exclaimed. Marigold smiled,
"Well you simply must put it under your pillow so the Tooth Fairy can give you a coin." The little girl looked at her in awe.
"I forgot about the Tooth Fairy!" The little girl exclaimed.
"Wait a moment children let me come down to the garden!" Marigold quietly called down to them. She closed her window and put her blue robe on and descended the stairs down to the great room.
"Marigold, what on earth are you doing?" Marigold twirled around to see her mother standing there with a candle.
"Oh Mother please let me go out to the garden! The children only came to give me birthday wishes!" Marigold pleaded. Her mother sighed, she never did like it when Marigold snuck out at night for this was not the first time.
"Oh I suppose since it's just the children." Marigold clasped her hands together, hugged her mother then went out to the garden where she found the children sleeping together.
"Poor tired darlings." Marigold said to herself. One by one she took the five children into her bed chamber and lay them on her bed. She kissed each one of them goodnight and fell asleep at her window.
