Dream doesn't like attention. So like how his brother doesn't get much attention, he tries to follow in his footsteps. So one thing he does is eat a dark apple and becomes corrupted. He thinks that will draw people away from him, but it makes them come closer.

I think this would be an interesting change in the way we see Dream/Shatter Dream.
