"Clear!" you yell out, eyes scanning the bedroom before continuing down the hallway. The team is currently busting a drug house, and you ventured upstairs with your partner to investigate the rest of the house. You hear Halstead call out as he moves in the opposite direction, and you come to a closed door. Gun raised firmly in front of you, you reach out and slowly turn the knob before rushing through the door. Your eyes scan the entire room – behind the door, under the bed, beside the dresser – before confirming it's empty and exhaling in relief, lowering your weapon to your side.
Just as you start to move back towards the door, a shuffling from the closet causes you to spin around, gun raised. You carefully make your way over and suck in a deep breath before wrapping your fingers around the edge of the curtain and whipping it open. When all you see is clothes, you furrow your brows in confusion, thinking that maybe you were hearing things. A whimper catches your attention, and you glance down at the floor, eyes landing on a small form cowering in the corner. Realization dawns upon you, and you gasp, immediately holstering your gun and crouching down.
"Hi there, sweetie," you breathe out, plastering on what you hope is a reassuring smile. The little girl's head pops up from where it was buried in her knees, arms hugging them against her chest. Her chubby cheeks are streaked with tears, probably having heard the doors being busted open and the shouting before hiding. You shuffle forward just a bit, trying not to scare her, "It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you. I'm a police officer." Sensing the girl, who can't be more than three years old, is calming slightly, you tilt your chin forward and extend a hand. You offer an encouraging nod, "You're okay, I promise."
After a few more seconds, the little girl flings herself forward and into your arms with so much force that you fall back onto your heels with a quiet 'humph'. Brows drawn together in sympathy for the small child, you wrap your arms around her, running your fingers through her tangled blonde hair softly. "Shh," you whisper as she cries into your shoulder, rubbing your hand up and down her back. Hearing footsteps, you glance to the side and see Jay standing in the doorway with a look of confusion. His eyes move between your face and the girl in your arms, letting out a sigh.

Heading into the district, you heft the sleeping little girl higher up on your hip with a huff, arms tired after carrying her nonstop since you found her. You were barely able to get her to let you go long enough for a paramedic to check her out while you took off your bulletproof vest. Since finding her, she hasn't said a single word, only whined in protest whenever you went to set her down. Moving through the bullpen, you roll your eyes at the smirks Atwater and Ruzek send your way and shuffle into the break room. You sit on the couch and gently maneuver the girl to sit on your lap, smiling as her little lashes flutter against her cheeks.
When she notices the unfamiliar surroundings and starts to panic, you push some hair out of her face and gently soothe her, "It's okay, sweetie. This is a police station, you're safe here." She notably calms at your words, sucking a thumb between her pink lips and staring at you with innocent brown eyes. "My name is Y/N, remember? Can you tell me your name?"
It takes a few seconds before she mumbles around her thumb, "Leah."
"Hi Leah," your smile brightens, "That's a beautiful name. Do you know where your mommy and daddy are?"
Leah immediately pouts and shakes her head, "Mama mean. Want my daddy."
Your heart breaks at how small her voice sounds, and you nod gently, "Okay. Well, I promise we're going to do whatever we can to find your daddy, okay, Leah?" At her nod, you grin widely again, "Now, you sit here, okay? And I'm gonna go get you a little snack."
As soon as you stand up and try the set her down on the couch, Leah clings to your neck, "No! Don't leave me!"
"Okay, okay," you soothe, "We'll go together, alright? Can I set you down? I promise to hold your hand the entire time; I won't let go." The scared little girl thinks over your offer for a few moments before reluctantly nodding, letting you set her on her feet. Without breaking contact, she wraps both of her tiny hands around your larger one, squeezing as tight as she can. You smile gently down at her curly blonde hair before moving from the break room and towards the vending machines.

After finally identifying Leah as the daughter of one of the addicts found in the drug house, the 'mean mama' she was referring to, Voight was able to find her father. He had been battling for custody of his daughter for months; now, he would finally be getting it, considering his ex is headed to jail. You sat with Leah for hours, unable to leave her side without having her screech bloody murder until her father finally arrived. Now, you are finally able to head home after an extremely long day.
You stand in front of your locker, packing up your things and reaching for the small velvet box resting on the top shelf. Flipping it open, you retrieve the ring nestled safely inside and slide it back into its rightful place on your left ring finger. Staring down at it, the overhead lights bouncing off the sizable diamond, you smile gently and recall the moment you first saw it.
A voice calling your name brings you out of your memories, and you raise your head, a smile growing as your eyes land on your fiancé himself. "Hey," you breathe out, "I'm almost ready to head home."
"I want a baby," Jay blurts out when he comes to stand beside you.
You gawk at him, huffing out a laugh and shaking your head in disbelief, "What?"
A grin tugs at the corners of his lips, eyes taking in your gorgeous features, "Watching you today with that little girl... I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you, Y/N. To have a family with you. I don't want to wait."
"Are you offering to impregnate me right now, in the locker room of the District?" you ask with raised brows, still in mild disbelief as you glance around the room to double-check it's empty.
"No," Jay chuckles, reaching forward and grabbing both of your hands in his. "I just need you to know that I'm serious about this; about us. I want a future with you, and I want it as soon as you'll give it to me."
Truly taking in his words, a gentle smile grows on your face, and you take a step closer to him. You raise your hand to rest on his chest, ring glistening against the dark blue of his shirt. "Well, you're in luck, Jay Halstead. I kinda want a future with you too."
