Epilogue: 15 Years Later

Spencer’s P.O.V.

“The end.” I said, closing a book of nursery rhymes. My blond hair, blue eye daughter, Jenifer Lisa looked at me. Those big, clear orbs looked at me, wide, begging for more.

“Please, Daddy. Another story.” She asked, clasping her hands together. I laughed.

“No, sweetie. Dad will be home soon and we will have to leave for the game.” I said, touching her nose. ”I need to finish getting Anna ready.”

“Aw, alright.” She said. I handed her the book and she slid off my lap to go put it away.

Billy and I were taking the kids to the Cardinals game. They were playing against our normally formed team in Mississippi. We were of course rooting for the Cardinals. That would never change. It was going to be Jenifer’s first game but for our other two boys, Lucas and Will, it was going to be their second game. Anna, our newest addition at only a year old, would be going to Aunt Niccole’s for the night.

“Anna.” I said, with my arms outstretched. She smiled at me, showing only her two front teeth and ran/stumbled away. I got up and chased her. “Gotcha!” I yelled, scooping her up. I tickled her, getting two high-pitched giggles.

“Are you ready to go to Aunt Niccole’s?” I asked, in my baby voice. She just giggled again. I cleaned her up and finished packing her diaper bag. Just as I was finishing, Billy came home.

“Hey, love.” He greeted me, kissing me, tenderly. “Hello, Anna-Banana.” He cooed, taking Anna.

“How was work?” I asked. Billy worked at the nursing home.

“Well, I walked in on an old lady naked as a jay bird.” He said, grabbing the diaper bag.

“Isn’t that your job?” I asked. “To see naked old people.” He rolled his eyes.

“Well, yes, but I don’t like to being surprised with nakedness.” Billy said. I started laughing.

“Oh, get your head out of the gutter.?” He tried to sound stern but he was laughing by the end too. After recovering I said, “I’m going to see if the boys are ready.” I kissed him on the cheek before heading out. I went down the hallway to the boys’ room. I saw Lucas, our seven year old, on the top bunk, trying to hang a large sheet from the ceiling, and Will, our nine year old, with a paper crown on his head and one of Jenifer’s princess wands.

“Whatca doin’, guys?” I asked, amused.

“I’m a prince and this is my sword.” Will shouted, holding up the princess wand. My smile broke out when I saw how happy his brown eyes were.

“And I’m his loyal peasant.” Lucas said, equally as happy. I laughed.

“Well, the king has a royal decree that y’all should clean up or we are all going to miss the Cards game.” I said, trying not to laugh.

“Go Cardinals!” Lucas exclaimed.

“That’s right, buddy.” I said, grabbing him off the top bunk. “Clean this up real quick. Tomorrow after church, I’ll help y’all make a new fort and you can camp out there for the night.”

“Awesome!” Will said, hugging me tightly by the legs. I smiled. I left to leave to get ready and found Billy and Anna. Anna was on the floor, playing with a rattle  with Billy. He had changed into jeans and a jersey.

“How were the boys?” Billy asked.

“Will was a prince and Lucas was his loyal peasant.”  I told him. He laughed.

“Will’s something ain’t he?” Billy said, smiling.

“He is named after you.” I remind him.

“True.” He said, kissing me. My heart still raced like I was still the same teenage boy I was fifteen years ago. How much had changed since that first kiss? How much had changed since I first saw this boy? The one that erased my entire past with so much ease that I had no doubt he was an angel. My parents were both gone. I had gained a whole new family and group of friends. I went to college and was now a social worker who helped abused and homeless kids. I had four beautiful kids and a husband that I loved more than anything in the world. None of this I ever thought possible until I met him. The most important thing that ever happened to me. The most important thing that could happen to anyone: falling in love.

Sorry it's so short guys but I think it is fitting. Well at least in my eyes it is. I hope y'all really enjoyed this story and give it lots of love. Bye!
