It was dark and silent. A kind of atmosphere that almost suffocated you. The kind that you are engulfed by. A deafening silence—a blinding darkness. Something no living being could comprehend. A feeling no human could empathize with.
Because this wasn't something humans had never felt—nor would they ever be able to. This.. was something beyond the living world. Beyond the millions galaxies, beyond what the Universe could create.
This is the fall to the land of the doomed. The underworld—so to say. There's not any specific name for the fall to the corrupt soul's destination, but the Abyss.
And after the Abyss comes the landing. Harsh and bone shattering—if you had bones there. The ground is hot.. but cold. The air was thick, but thin. The place was a enigma in itself, let alone the beings there.
Jeongguk was there. The afterlife.
Of course, he had no idea where he was. Not a clue. He couldn't remember anything—like his mind was blank. He had no memories and no hopes.
But before he could even start to comprehend anything around himself, a voice—oddly cheery and dark—greeted him.
"Oh fantastic! You're here!" Jeongguk looked to where it came from, blinking frantically like a continuous shutter of a camera to get his vision to focus. When it did, he saw a dark figure, a spindly being, striding towards him.
The man, his face sunken and paper white, towered over Jeongguk. The latter resembling something that had been thrown down and had sprawled out due to the impact. Which was a lot like what happened.
The sickly looking male out stretched his lengthy arm to Jeongguk, spider-like fingers slightly curved but presented for the boy to take his hand.
"Jeon Jeongguk, yes?" Was the next thing the male said. The boy on the ground looked up at him hesitantly, watching the man's expecting gaze for a moment before shakily nodding and hesitantly taking his hand. His icy hand that sent unpleasant chills down Jeongguk's 'spine'.
The boy was the pulled up by the man with what seemed like little-to-no effort.
"Dandy, we've been expecting you." The male smiled a crooked grin, the teeth showing in said grin being platinum white. Tk
"W-We?" Jeongguk asked, unsteadily. He glanced around, seeing no one and nothing except a very large empty space. "I.. don't see anyone." He added, looking back at the man.
"What do you mean?" The man asked, but it was rhetorical seeming one. "Beings are all around you." Jeongguk blinked, and just like that, the place was filled with other people. Or what looked to be people.
Jeongguk stumbled back, eyes going wide in shock. It was like a big city had appeared in a millisecond. But it wasn't anything like a big city. There might have been the same number of things but the energy was not the same.
The energy here was draining. Misery, hatred, sadness, and so much more was what this place held. No one was happy—no one had anywhere to go. They were just... wondering without purpose. That or they just stood against colorless building walls and smoked cigarettes, drank some type of alcohol—or what Jeongguk assumed to be alcohol—and/or stared blankly into the crowds.
It was a dreary place. Heavy and cold, but somehow light and hot. Both being borderline unbearable.
"Follow me, Jeongguk." Again came the the thin man's voice, breaking the boy out of his thoughts. He looked back at the male to see him already walking away, and Jeongguk's body almost immediately reacted. It followed the pale man like a lost puppy.
He hurried to catch up and look at the man with big doe eyes filled with shocked wonder. "Where—where am I?" Raven haired boy asked. He noticed how the man walked through the crowds effortlessly, while Jeongguk jumped out of people's way, scared of hitting into one of them.
The man didn't answer him. Only stayed quiet. Jeongguk followed him uncertainty into a building, one that was a bright kind of dark. A business building type thing. But it was made of monochrome. Everything was different shades of black and white.
The boy decided to not say anything more, seeing it not wise to get in trouble here when he didn't even know where here was.
They then went into an elevator, silent still. And then up to the 8th floor, and into a room.
"Sit." The man told Jeongguk, the latter immediately doing as he was told and sitting in the chair in front of the large desk in the room. The man sat at the desk across from him and folded his hands on the wood, looking right into Jeongguk's eyes.
The man's eyes looked hollow... black and bottomless, but not in a good way.
"Well, Jeon Jeongguk, welcome to The Gradian Holding Place." The man smiled that same crooked grin, making Jeongguk's skin crawl.
And that how Jeongguk's life as a Guardian started.
