[yet to be edited]Jeongguk was introduced to The Holding Place long ago. After his introduction from who he now knows as Leader, he was sent back to the crowds. And from then on, time past. Time that felt like a good millennia. A millennia of wandering the streets of that miserable city of the doomed souls that had yet to be assigned to a human.
You see, after you die, you either go to the place above that Jeongguk had yet to know much about.. since he wasn't allowed to imagine anything greater.. to have hopes—to imagine anything more then what he knew now—which wasn't a lot—or you go here. To The Guardian Holding Place.
The place you go if you did something horrible in your human life. Something unspeakable. Your punishment is this place, and... soon enough instead protecting a human.
The Holding Place specifically is where your soul stays until you are assigned to a human. Then you go to earth and stay with them, protect them, until they turn 18. Only they can see you. After that you go back to The holding Place or... if you did an exceptional job with protecting them for those 18 years, you might just be allowed to go above...
But, there has only been a few cases of that happening, Jeongguk heard, thus no one hoped for it.
And so, Jeongguk waited like everyone else, with the same longing filling him and dark weight on his shoulders. Everyday there was call. Call is when everyone gathers before that same monochrome building in wait for see who is called into it, to be assigned to a human. To escape this place.
They went and.. never came back. Not for a long time.
And, everyday Jeongguk stood there in the crowd, waiting and waiting for his name to be called. Dread filled him more each time when it wasn't him—until one day...
"Jeon Jeongguk. It's your day, please, come inside." Leader said from the doors of the building. Jeongguk perked up, stiffening slightly.
Had he heard him correctly? A person next to Jeongguk pushed the latter's shoulder, ushering him to go up, everyone creating a path for him.
Finally. Finally—it was his day.
Jeongguk walked tightly to Leader, eyes slightly wide. Leader opened the door for him, Jeongguk walked in, taking one last over the shoulder glance at the crowd he had known for so long and then Leader followed behind him.
They got into Leader's office and Jeongguk sat in the same chair he sat in so long ago. Nothing had changed. At all.
"Jeon Jeongguk we have a human for you." Leader it right to it, immediately catching Jeongguk's attention.
The ravenette looked at him, eyes focusing. "Oh?" Leader held out his hand in the air, a red paper file appearing in his hand, then putting it down on the desk.
"Oh yes." The same off grin. "You, my dear Jeongguk, are assigned to a Mr. Kim Taehyung." The file flipped open by itself, turning itself towards Jeongguk so he could see into it.
There was a picture of a ultrasound of a baby boy, the birth certificate for him that would be created soon, information on the baby—soon to be likes, dislikes, plans for his life, his parents, etc.
"Kim.. Taehyung.. hm." Jeongguk said to himself, pursing his lips softly. Interesting.
The file had so much on the baby. From the basics to things that you shouldn't even know about a baby that wasn't even born yet.
"Yes. And his birth date is in~" the man checked his watch, "Two hours. In that time you need to memorize this." Jeongguk shot his gaze up to Leader.
"All of this?"
"All of it."
"How-"
"Not my problem." Leader said as he leaned back in his chair. "He's yours now. Everything that happens to him is on you until he turns eighteen~"
Jeongguk bit his lip. This was sudden. "Everything?"
"Everything from bumps to bruises." Leader tilted his head with that chilling smile.
Jeongguk tsk'ed. "Great." Sarcastic.
Leader chuckled. "Oh don't look so dreadful. You'll enjoy him. He's a good one." A winks
Jeongguk puzzled slightly. What was that wink about?
"Alright... thank you.. I guess." Jeongguk sighed, taking the file off the desk—almost dropping it as he did, Leader rolling his eyes.
Jeongguk left his office quickly.
He spent the next 2 hours memorizing each word of that file, wanting to do good for the human. Thinking that maybe if he did good then maybe.. he wouldn't have to come back. Just maybe.
Then Leader came and got him again, walking out with him to the same place Jeongguk had dropped when he first got there.
"Good luck." Was the last thing Leader said to Jeongguk before—well, before Jeongguk was surrounded by darkness again. That suffocating darkness that consumed him.
But then there was a light. A light like he had never seen before. Or at least, one he hadn't seen in ages. He fell more and more into the light, and then he hit the ground. Though, instead of falling on the floor ungracefully like last time... he landed on his feet.
He was in a room that he assumed to be a hospital.. the lights above being all too bright for Jeongguk's liking and the room extremely bland. Although, that he was used to.
He looked around, seeing a woman in the bed, extremely sweaty, holding a swaddled baby in her arms, smiling down at it as if it where the only human in the world. There was a man next to them, Jeongguk knew that man to be Taehyung's father. The man's hand was in his wife's shoulder, smiling down at them too.
It was a pure moment.. though Jeongguk felt nothing. He stepped closer to the three, standing beside them on the opposite side of the infants dad, though scared to get too close.
They didn't seem to notice him at all—which made sense since only the assigned human can see him. It was just odd to Jeongguk.
Everything in the room felt so... familiar, like he had seen all that the room contains before, but at the same time everything was new. He felt a sort of deja vu and it was quite unsettling.
The Guardian looked down at the child, seeing how it was slightly red faced and so.. so small. It was... cute(?). But.. odd.
Jeongguk didn't know how to feel about it. Though something about him made Jeongguk feel... something he hadn't ever felt before.
And that was the day that Jeongguk met his human.
