"Thomas gave us hope when we had none. He gave us the thing he didn't have himself, hope. Love. Friendship. Happiness. We gave it back as much as we could, but it wasn't enough. We couldn't give more because we didn't have time. Now I see, we should've made time. I wonder sometimes.. what if we were never taken? I think a whole lot of us would still be alive. But maybe we wouldn't have survived either way. Who knows? Thomas would've known. He was smart like that, you know? Always keeping us behind him to protect us. He's probably thinking right now 'stop crying over me' and I can't. I can't stop crying over him because he was a hero. And a hero doesn't always survive. They don't always have a happy ending. Thomas deserved a happy ending. So many did. So many heroes deserved a happy ending, but life didn't allow them. Why? I have no clue. What I do know? He will see everyone he loves. His mom, his friends, his sister, the love of his life. It's all we could've wished for him. It's all we want for him. Sure, it makes us sad that he isn't here anymore but. But sometimes we have to let the things we love go. As much as it hurts, you know it's the right thing to do," Brenda says while hot tears fall.
She looks at the coffin and smiles, "go on and be happy. You deserve it."
She sits down again and Frypan stands up.
"There isn't more I can say about Thomas than what's already said. Thomas escapes death so many times.. I guess another time was just too much to ask for. He was just tired of living. He wanted to sleep. And he's sleeping now. He's sleeping next to him again. And he'll wake up next to him. He'll smile and kiss him, because he never got the chance here on earth. He didn't deserve it, the bullying, yet he accepted it. He accepted it because he thought he owed us, when it's the other way around; we owe him. We owe him so much. We will never be able to repay our debt, not because he's not here anymore, but because we owe him so much more then he thinks," Frypan smiles at the coffin.
"I know you're watching, don't worry, we've got your back," he pats the coffin softly.
He sits down again.
Everyone is crying. But then Noah gets up and goes to the stage.
"I've found this thing and.. I'd like to play it.." he hands someone a little usb and a white screen rolls down.
The light dims. The speakers are on.
A sleeve is seen, they're wearing a red... jacket?
They move around a bit. They're mumbling slightly; "is this thing on? Bloody hell, it's not on. Is it?" They have a British accent. They move a bit more and it's indeed a red jacket. They're looking at the persons chest now. Everyone has a look of confusion on.
"Alright.." the person says under their breath. They move in front of the camera. You can see their face now.
"Hi there, Tommy."
The boy smiles at the camera.
"Oh my god," the Scorchers and Gladers breathe out.
"Uhm. I hope you're seeing this, if not and this is showin' at your funeral; hi everyone Tommy loves!" He waves, "so you might not know me. I'm Newt and I was -sorry, am- in love with Tommy. Well, you might call him differently; Thomas or whatever his name was before all of this. I have no doubt that they gave us new names after wiping our memories.. anyway.. uhm. If this is showin' at your funeral know this Tommy; imma whoop yo ass for not bloody seeing this," Newt rambles slightly.
