I had this book part empty and even undrafted for days. I saw everything that happened on social media. I am probably already too late with this post. But it doesn't matter. Something like this is not to late because if we don't do anything about it, it is going to keep going on.
I am Nigerian, living in my home country so we don't have the protests and all that some of you are having over the Atlantic. We are only getting the news from social media and news outlets.
I don't know who George Floyd is, and I didnt really hear what happened to him but I know four policemen were the reason for his death and it hurts to think that people would be so cruel to do that to him.*
We watch movies, read novels of things like this and say we are going to do something about it, going to make a change like Martin Luther King Jr. We start the trend, make it go on for a while and after a lot of people of hooked, the trend dies days later.
There is no difference between a black man and a white man. Sure we have different colors, but that is it. We are breathing the same air, wearing the same clothes, drinking the same water and all. I don't understand how a man will hate another man just because of his skin color.
Favorite movie of all time is The Hate U Give. It shows so much of the black community and culture.
I honestly don't know what to say anymore because my brain is blank.
Like I said, the impact of the BLM movement is not really active in my country. Why? Because we are all blacks and it will be kinda weird to protest to the government who are also black skinned.
I have heard stories of the trials and pains black people had to go through to be at least heard.
I am so hurt and pained that I am ignorant of this entire situation and really wished I knew more.
I remember as a little girl, I so desperately wished I was white. I wished I had their soft porcelain skin, amazing unique eye color and most of all, long hair. But as I grew up, I realized that my skin tone is the best thing that has ever happened to me. And every time I think of it, I get angry at myself for wishing I was white. But that is not the point, my point is; I grew up, saw the happenings of the world, and realized that even if my color is the best thing ever, it is still the cause for a lot of people's despair. And it hurts to come to that crashing and desolate realization.
We can post on Instagram all we want, put it in our WhatsApp status, Snapchat story, Tik Toks, IG story, tweet about it. Even protest about it carrying cardboards and placards. Even though it is making a huge difference, nothing can be changed until a lot of things are done. Nothing is changed until a white police officer is apprehended and arrested for killing an innocent black man. Nothing is changed until a white mother allows her child to play and liaise with a black child. Nothing is changed until black people are allowed in at most places like schools, eateries, restaurants etc. Nothing is changed until there is equality and love in the things we do.
I want to make reference to another movie. It's a Disney original movie and some of you know it and probably love it. Zombies. Every time I watch it, I am awfully reminded of the unequality between the black community and white community. The normal humans are the white people and the zombies are the blacks. The zombies are treated differently because they are not normal and even if they have their Z bands to reduce their level of animosity, they are still treated like trash. They are given the worst places to live in. Their school environment is so dirty and unfit. If you actually listen to one of their songs 'My Year', Eliza, Zed's best friend said this "...we get the worst jobs and curfews at night. They make us wear this uniforms that make us look the same. Why is it just us being treated this way?..." and if you actually listen to the song, you will know what came next.
The entire Zombies franchise was talking about equality amongst each other. Stopping racism and loving each other.
Sometimes I wish that the happy endings in movies happens real life but we all know that can never happen.
Another movie quote that spoke to me was when Starr in The Hate U Give, was talking to her uncle. She asked him what he would if he saw a white man bringing something out of his pocket. His answer was he would tell the man to put his hands in the air. She then asked him if he saw a black man do the same thing, and he said; he would shoot.
For a black man to say that, it is clear that the system is demented.
Every time I think or dream of traveling out of my country, I ask myself, am I sure that I can do it because I have heard of all the things that the black people go through and it scares me.
The BLM movement is not something that should be seen as a trend because you don't want to get cancelled amongst your friends.
There is so much I want to say but I know some of you reading this already know it.
I want to thank those of you are actively protesting about this really serious matter. I really wish I was there to protest.
RIP George Floyd🖤♥🖤♥🖤♥.

No live matters until black lives matter.

*please for those of you who know the actual story of George Floyd, it will mean the world if you told me the detailed version. I really want to know what happened.
Thanks.

So another innocent black person was killed and that is Breonna Taylor. Reading her stories brought me to tears. How people can be so cruel to do that.
And to top it all of, her killers weren't arrested or even charged. I don't know how court trials work but they committed a cold blooded murder, one that involved life imprisonment or something.
Breonna Taylor didn't deserve to die. It's been close to 6 months now and nothing has been done. The government, the system is letting these murderers roam free.
I might not have a huge following here or anywhere but that will not stop me from making my voice heard. I might not be protesting on the streets but that will not stop me from making my voice heard. From protesting. From fighting for justice and equality.
Breonna didn't deserve this. No one deserves this. I thought something would have been done to these officers but according to what I've been seeing, nothing has been done.
I'll continue to fight for Breonna, George and every black man. I will continue to fight for the unborn black babies and every black child. I will continue to fight for equality and justice.
