Chapter 2- Matt/Jess Survive

After the events of last year, there were only two survivors of the terrible night. Matthew and Jessica. They may be safe now..but will they ever recover from what they have lost?

What happened to Sam?
Sam was unable to stay still while hiding from the Wendigo. The Wendigo spotted her and stabbed her through her stomach.🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Josh?
Josh recognized Hannah to late. The Wendigo crushed Josh's skull in the mines. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Ashley?
Ashley thought she heard Jessica in the mines and went to investigate her voice. She opened a trap door she found in the mines and a Wendigo jumped it. The Wendigo decapitated her. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Chris?
Chris went to go find Josh along with the stranger. The Wendigo found them and the stranger was killed. While running from the Wendigo, Chris wasn't fast enough. He was decapitated by the Wendigo before he was able to reach the door and have Ashley let him in. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Emily?
Emily was bitten by a Wendigo because she didn't have the flare gun, instead she gave it to Matt who kept it for himself. Her getting bitten resulted in Mike shooting her in fear that she would turn into a Wendigo. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Mike?
Despite Mike telling Sam not to move she did by mistake anyways. Mike being the hero that he is, risked his life to save Sam's. He ran in front of her and was scratched across his stomach by the Wendigo. After Sam's death there wasn't anything Mike could do so he took his own life and blew himself up with the Lodge. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Jessica?
Jess was one of two survivors of that terrible night. She has been in the hospital due to her severe injuries and hypothermia from being dragged through the snow and coldness in her bra and underwear. Poor girl is scared of her own shadow and is so lost and confused. Sometimes she will still call out the name of her loved one, "Mike." If her and Matt hadn't found each other she knows she probably wouldn't have lasted long. She is forever grateful that Matt didn't leave her behind and instead chose to save her life. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

What happened to Matt?
Matt has always tried to look on the bright side of things but under the circumstances he feels worthless. He feels like he wasn't good enough and maybe could've been there to save Emily and the others. He's just thankful he was able to save Jess. Matt got a small apartment to live in but he does get lonely. He lost his girlfriend and friends that night and he holds it against himself. He's just trying to be there for Jessica and be a good friend considering he's the only one left that understands her. After all Matt was always the nice guy. 🦋Butterfly Effect🦋

Matt Visits Jess
Matt only has seen Jess a few times after the mines. They were rescued from there but when they found out their were no other survivors, they both were a crying mess. Most of the time Matt visits Jess she's pretty out of it so he's hoping he can get more normal responses out of her. He hates seeing her knowing she still has the mindset of being in the mines. Matt puts a grey hoodie on, his casual sweatpants, and some sneakers on. He looks in the mirror and things to himself.

Matt thinking to himself- *remembering Hannah and Beth* I haven't worn a grey hoodie since...

Matt- *determined* "Ah forget it..stay focused Matt."

He grabs his keys and makes his way to his car. He gets in his car and starts driving to the hospital to visit Jessica. When he gets there he makes his way to the front desk.

Lady at front desk- *Sweetly* "Hello Sir. What do you need on this fine day?"

Matt- *casually* "Uh I'm here for a visit."

Lady at front desk- *curios/sweetly* "And who are you here to visit?"

Matt- *casually/glancing around* "Jessica Riley."

Matt signs in and is taken to the room by a nurse.

Nurse- *outside Jessica's room* "Here we are. Be careful, she's still a little bit shaken up after being attacked by that human."

Matt- *knowing that it was no human but agreeing anyways because no one seems to listen to them* "So am I."

Matt walks into the room and quietly shuts the door behind him. He walks further in and sees a calm Jessica sitting up in her bed. The blanket tucked over her bare legs. She doesn't look like the confident girl that she used to be. No, not at all. No coat from some expensive store, only a hospital gown..Her twin braids all mangled and no longer laying gently over her shoulders..Her face no longer caked in make up...only in bruises and scars and pale skin.

Matt- *calmly towards Jessica's direction* "Jess?"

Jess- *scared/confused* "Mike?"

Matt thinking to himself- Oh Jess..I wish it was..
Matt- *calm/sad* "No...It's Matt.."

Jess didn't seem to understand when people told her Mike didn't survive..she couldn't handle it..poor girl..everday she just prays that Mike will walk through that door..but he never will. She thought she had seen him one day..while she was sleeping..he was reaching for her through a bright light. She told Matt about this which scared him..he was certain that Jess almost died in her sleep..and maybe Mike was reaching for her. Wanting her to join him on the other side.

Jess- *scared/confused* "Matt?"

Matt- *calmly* "Yeah..Matt."

Jess- *scared/panicking* "Matt. Where's Mike?! Did he make it?!"

Matt walked towards Jess and held her hand while she was looking into his eyes with tears. He may hate Mike for killing Emily but he wishes Mike was alive...for Jessica's sake.

Matt- *with tears in his eyes but trying to keep calm* "They..he was in the fire.."

Jess- *crying but becoming more calm* "Is he ok?!"

Mike- *calmly/not knowing how to say it* "Jess..I..I wish he was..so he could be here for you.."

Matt looks into Jessica's dull but depressing eyes and realizes he's falling in love with this poor girl. Of course he knows he can't replace Mike and Jess may never get over the loss..hes still not over losing Emily..but he wants to be the best person he can be for Jessica..he really does love her..

Matt- *lets the tears come down/shaky voice* "Jessica, look at where we are."

Jess and Matt look around the room.

Matt- *crying/shaky voice* "Look at where we started.."

Jess looks at Matt slightly confused while crying

Matt- *crying/shaky voice* "I know I don't deserve you Jessica..but here me out? That would be enough."

Jess nods.

Matt- *crying/shaky voice* "If I could spare his life..If I could trade his life for mine..He'd be standing here right now. And you would smile. And that would be enough."

Jess starts tearing up.

Matt- *crying/shaky voice* "I don't pretend to know the challenges we're facing. I know there's no replacing what you've lost..and you need time..but I'm not afraid! I know who I fell in love with. Just let me stay here by your side? That would be enough."

Jess nods and attempts to hug Matt with the amount of strength she has. He holds on to her sobbing.

Matt- *whispers* "I love you Jessica."

Jess- *nods/whispers back* "I love you too Matt."

This chapter was the saddest and cutest thing I ever wrote😭 Also yes I used a Hamilton quote because it just fit (I did alter it though) Song linked at the top after the photo. 😆
