He was disappearing, all the while keeping a smile plastered on his face, those green eyes having lost their spark some time ago. Those soft brown curls, I dreamt of running my hand through, were losing their bounce, more often then not covered by a hat or hoodie. His face, his spectacular face, was starting to become so gaunt the already prominent cheekbones seemed to jut out. But those sensuous lip? The bottom one, so plum and tempting that I just wanted to bite it? They remained the same, if not a little chapped. Most importantly, his laugh-I could have been content listening to his laugh for the rest of my life, it was gone, in it's place a soft smile that too was hidden most days.
As if he'd read my mind, he looked over at me. Catching my stare and he gave me that smile. And I could've melted right there, if not for the girl perched in his lap. Lucile. Staring at her phone when this exquisite being was inches away from her. I contemplated taking the phone out of her hands and smashing it on the floor.
I never asked, never questioned the days he would call me in the dead of the night, and whisper to come pick him up as the sound of shattering glass engulfed his end of the call. I never asked as I took him to my home, where I would tend to whatever damage that had been wrecked upon him.
Swimming so deep in my thoughts of him, I hadn't realized he had asked me something.
"So, what are your plans?" Jayden, asked me, it took me a moment before I registered his words. It must've shone on my face because he asked again, "For the summer, what are you planning on doing?"
"I- I am... umm," clearing my throat, heat sprung on my face as Jake and Lucile both looked at
I glanced at Jayden, but he remained silent, but that smile? Albeit how tiny it was, it was still directed towards me.
"Yeah, we were gonna ask you last week but then you disappeared," Jake said.
"And!" twisting in Jayden's lap, Lucile squinted at me, as if she could see where I had gone, "We even went to your house, and your mom just said you were 'out'."
"I was out," I tried not to panic, they couldn't know where I had gone.
"Out? Out where?" Lucile persisted.
"Just... Out," I replied lamely, trying to think of an excuse, but I had never been good at lying on the stop.
And I could've wept tears of relief as Jayden phone rang, sparing me from further questioning. We all were silent as he answered his phone. He moved Lucile out of his lap, standing up he walked a few steps. All I could catch was, "Thank you, I'll see you then," before he ended the call and turned to us.
"Who was that?" Lucile asked, raising a groomed brow. I felt bad for being so mean to her in my head. Lucile had always been nice to me, even if she was rather nosy at times.
"That, Lucile," Jayden said coming back to sit down, "was our trip calling us." Lucile smiled and I looked away before she kissed him. Jake caught my eye and made a gagging motion, and maybe it was the finally seeing him smile, really smile, that made me laughed. Who knew what sort of things would be revealed on this mystery trip.
