"Knock, Knock, Upper East Siders. As summer draws to a close, and students ready themselves for another 9 months of hell, another scandal is brewing. Spotted arriving at the doorsteps of The Carlton House on 21 East 61 Street was none other than the viciously talked about Blair Anthony; Word is her mother died of... what was it, AIDS? Blair had two defaults: her grandmother's house in the slums of Philadelphia or the lavish life of a socialite on the Upper East Side. Unfortunately, blinded by the need to know her "deceased" (according to her mother) father, this New Jersey riff-raff chose wrong. Consequences? She's been sentenced to social destruction by the Upper East Side's Elite. I wonder how Blair's step-siblings, Valerie and Niall, are adjusting to this new living situation. Sources tell me that Niall is ecstatic to have a new sister. Unfortunately, Valerie has shown no emotion throughout the entire situation. How's it going V? Heartbroken that daddies little girl is-"

Valerie Anthony snapped her phone shut aggressively. Hearing that you're step-sister, who appeared out of the blue, is moving in with you is one thing, but for it to end up the anonymous slander blog titled Gossip Girl is another thing. Valerie was already having a bad day, and she didn't need another distraction.

"Whoa, Val," Blake Buruss, her best friend, exclaimed. "What's got your panties in a twist?"

"Yeah, you've been cryptic all morning." Alexandria Mason, Val's friend; no more like minion pulled Val close and looked around suspiciously. "Is it because of... your sister?"

Valerie jolted Alexandria back, blood flowing to her cheeks.

"Step-sister," Valerie said through gritted teeth. "And I already told you, the reveal of my step-sisters existence has had no affect on me. As long as she stays the hell away from me and doesn't get in my way, we shouldn't have any problems."

"Are you sure? Because last night you were turning in your sleep and mutteri-."

"Shut up, Alexandria!" Valerie exclaimed. She had had just about enough of everyone asking her about her new sister. That's all people seemed to care about now. How do you feel? Who is she? Have you met her yet? What does she look like? People didn't seem to care that in a few short days, she would be hosting the Back-To-School Bash, one of the biggest parties the Upper East Side see's annually.

"Sorry, Val." Alexandria was small and petite, but not that bright. Her only claim to fame was Valerie, and the fact that her father owned NVision Industries, the very industry that built half of New York City's skyline. She was sweet, and pretty, but no match for Valerie's beautiful stature, gorgeous blue-eyes, and flowing blonde hair.

"There's a coffee shop just down the street." Valerie motioned with her hands to the large black sign indicating the whereabouts of the popular cafe. "Get me my usual... GO!"

Alexandria hastened down 92nd street with pep in her step. Valerie ran her around like a dog, and had no mercy. Once, Valerie ordered Alexandria to walk all the way across town to pick up a dress, and then when Alexandria delivered the beautifully expensive dress, Val threw it away and laughed in Alexandria's face. Do you know how hard it is to walk across town in Gucci Studded Metallic Leather Ballet Flats? Why would Alexandria do all this to please this devil? 6 letters: S-T-A-T-U-S. Being seen with Valerie Anthony, one of the most precious gems of the Upper East Side boosted her status up above the rest of wannabe queens. With Valerie, Alexandria was granted the VIP treatment at all the popular clubs, parties, restaurant... She never waited in line, she never had to pay for things, and boys seemed to flock to Valerie, allowing Alexandria the leftovers.

"Remind me why you're so mean to her?" Blake stood with her arms crossed, judging Valerie.

Val cocked her head to the side, pondering her many reasons for being such a witch to such a sweet and loyal girl. Val was the Queen at OLPA (Our Lady of Peace Academy), and a jewel of the Upper East Side. Just like all great rulers of OLPA, she had started at the bottom and created a hierarchy that could not be broken. Perhaps that's the reasoning for why she was so penurious. She had earned it.

"It's initiation," Val explained. "All girls have to go through it, and I don't find it just to favor Alexandria any less than the rest of OLP's student body."

"For the last time, Val," Blake scolded, "this is high school, not politics." Blake was strictly opposed to hierarchy within schools and life in general. She believed that everyone should be treated equally despite their race, background, etc. Ironic that her best friend is the one who established the social hierarchy long ago, right?

"B, they're one in the same. High School is the foreground for life. Everyone knows that who you are in high school determines who you'll be in the real world, and in the real world there are hierarchies. I'm just bringing that cruelty of the world to the attention of those who are unaware of this ongoing struggle." Val applauded herself inwardly for coming up with that moving speech right on the spot. Unfortunately, she knew Blake was one of the very few people on this planet who couldn't be manipulated.

"You can try to convince yourself that this Social Pyramid is justifiable, but in truth, it's sick, twisted, and cruel."

Just then, Val's phone buzzed with a text message.

"I would love to sit here and argue the perks of the Pyramid," Valerie sarcastically replied, "but I have to get home. The love child has arrived. See you tonight, for drinks at that new bar on East 97th and 3rd?"

"I'll clear my schedule," Blake sardonically noted. "What about your coffee? Should I tell Alexandria to cancel or...?"

"You can have it," Valerie offered. "I just needed to give her something constructive to do so I could get her out of my face."

Valerie rolled her eyes and stalked down E 86th to meet the new addition to the Anthony lineage...
