Research log #156
"I've seen it again, that bright flash of red in the forest beside my flat, it had been happening for an approximately 2 days now. I suppose I should go and investigate, but I am quite busy with the log I have written on the other day (which may be connected to bright flashing in the forest If I am lucky, But I still do not have the permission of Ms. Hickory to enter her forest land)
I couldn't bring myself to test out the new formula I have created for my... well. Time machine, I must say? It's still missing one key component that I may or may not find here in the town of Biñan, I do not even know what its name is but I have harvested a syringe of it a few years back (I had found it somewhere near the forest as well) and it powered the whole apartment, I was astonished. It was liquid, its color is gold though, it shines and it sparkles as I show it to the light. Never before had I seen such a thing, it was amazing truly. And I must find it again. If not for my research, then for my curiosity."

Birch clicked the tape recorder off, and he breathed out a sigh, he had been waiting all day to report in the events that are occurring in his neighborhood for the past 2 days and is relieved that he finally logged it. He gently tossed the recorder on the table, the sound of metal colliding with wood echoing in the small and messy made up laboratory, Birch bee lined towards the door and opened it revealing the larger part of his rented flat, the living room. Well, it's almost a living room, it didn't bother him that much that he doesn't have a functioning television, nor is he bothered by the couch that is plastered with chemical burns. He has a roof over his head and research that he is very proud of, and that's just fine by him.
Being an unofficial scientist is rather hard be that as it may, keeping every research that can advance humanity but can't hand it over because the government's system is corrupt and other people would take the credit sounds right and just though. He has dealt with something of a sort first-hand, he handed a slip of chemical mixtures that can make a person dissociate from the body for long periods of time to the head administer of the national science foundation and was accepted. He waited and waited for a long time for his acceptance to be one of the scientists, when he saw that his findings were selling big time but the so-called creator was none other but the administrator, Birch decided that it's better to leave himself to his own devices and not apply to anything that might take his findings again. Taking his research into account, he experiments at the flat he has always rescinded in and has gain a reputation on being the "Cold-hearted, clumsy and awkward scientist upstairs".
"Birch! Come down, you dolt!"
The lively screech of Ms. Hickory sounded downstairs, Birch snapped his head to her voice and scrambled. He stalked through the not-so friendly dinner table with jars of unknown species kept in them and opened the door, the strong breeze waving through his locks. He went down the flight of stairs, stumbling on fallen soil and objects, after a big mess of a slide down the stairs, he finally landed on the lobby. Birch chuckled to himself and ventured his way to the main room where guests and flat owners often stay and hang out, eyes moved over to him and whispered echoed all over the large room. He wanted to scoff at them but decided against it and spotted Ms. Hickory impatiently tapping her feet on the ground while looking at him.
"What took you so long, Dearie?" Her voice softened as she pulled out a far too familiar slip of paper, Birch sighed and stretched out his hand "Who needs fixing?" Ms. Hickory lighted up, gave the slip to the scientist and clapped her hand together "The young man upstairs! He says that his fridge doesn't work properly and our repair man has just been in an accident-" Ms. Hickory stabbed her finger on Birches chest gently and looked at him sternly "-I could get a new person but since you haven't gone out of that god-forsaken flat of yours for days, you're fixing it-" she brought back her finger, straightened and smiled "-If you want that permit of yours, do this one thing".
She has always been good at bargaining, huh?
"Alright then"
