I gave a little insight on what Adrien is thinking in this chapter. I'm going to do that with Marinette and Luka too, so don't worry.

"He's going to be fine." He said. "As long as he gets some rest. However, he isn't going to fully recover until the akuma is defeated."

"I will, Master." Said Marinette. "I'll make sure that I do."

Master Fu smiled. "I'm sure you will. I sense Chat Noir isn't the only reason you are here, though."

Marinette nodded. "Yes, Master. I called up the Lucky Charm and a music box appeared, so I figured it was a sign that I needed help from another miraculous, since Chat is down for the count."

"I see." Said Master Fu. "In that case, I'll get the box."

He walked over to said box, punched in the code, and the miraculous box emerged.

He took it out and pushed it toward her, opening it.

"Marinette Dupain-Cheng." He began. "Choose an ally you can trust to fight along-side you on this mission. Choose wisely."

Immediately, Marinette thought of Rena Rouge, a plan already formulating in her mind. Maybe Rena could make an illusion, distracting the akuma and then she would be able to-

Yes, yes that could work. Her hand was already reaching for the fox miraculous.

However, she hesitated, her hand lingering.

No, no that can't work. After what she had seen happen to Chat, she couldn't afford to take any risks. One hit, and it was game over. Done.

Her eyes flickered over to him lying on the mat, a sheet covering him as he fidgeted constantly in his sleep, his eyes darting under his eyelids. He wasn't going to be able to save her next time.

She should have been paying more attention. If she had, Chat Noir wouldn't have been in the state he was now. After all, Ladybug is the only one with the power to purify an akuma. If something were to happen to her, Paris would be doomed.

Master Fu was right. She needed to choose wisely, or there were going to be dire consequences.

Her eyes caught a glimpse of the snake miraculous, sitting there in the box in all it's glory. She stared. Considered. Then she took it.

"So you've made your decision?" Master Fu asked.

"Yep." Marinette told him. She put out her hand with the Miraculous still in it. "I know exactly which ally can help me out this time."

Heartbreak. Everywhere he went. Everywhere he turned, there was something, someone out there to break him, to break his heart.

"My son, my own flesh and blood, was Chat Noir this whole time?" Gabriel's usually monotone voice had grown significantly louder in the deadly silence of the Agreste mansion, his voice echoing throughout.

"How could you have kept such a thing from me? Such an important detail of your life! Don't you trust me?"

"But Father-"

"Get out! Get out of my sight!" He turned his back to him at the top of the stairs and walked away without so much as a glance.

"Father, wait! Please listen!"

"I always knew you were a disappointment, Adrien." Gabriel muttered to himself as he left but Adrien heard it clearly. He tried to run upstairs towards his father in an effort to make things right.

But the Gorilla was already pulling him away, and in his iron grip, it was impossible to break free. Adrien wanted to please his father. He knew that even though Gabriel Agreste was not a man of many words, a person who does not show much compassion or vulnerability to the outside world, even to his own family, he still wanted to him to be happy for Adrien for once. He wanted to make him proud.

And to hear those words come directly from his mouth, even though he already suspected that was what he thought of him, hurt him. His heart didn't feel good. His vision turned blurry. Then the scene shifted.

He was at school. The bell rang and students filed out the second it did, chatting with one another. He spotted Nino, Alya and Marinette walking down the stairs. He walked up to them. "Hey, guys."

They stopped. Blinked. Stared.

Then, Alya walked right past him, bumping his shoulder purposely hard in the process, without a word.

Adrien was left staring at her back as she retreated down the steps. He rubbed his shoulder and turned to face Nino. "What's wrong with Alya, man?"

Nino stepped forward. "You," he growled. "disgust me dude."

He shook his head and went down the steps to catch up with Alya.

"Wait! Nino!" Adrien was desperate as he ran down the steps and grabbed Nino's shoulder from behind to stop him.

When he turned around, his gaze expressed absolute hatred. Towards him.

"Let go of me." He warned.

"But-"

"Get this straight pretty boy." Nino grabbed him by the collar and shoved him roughly into a wall. The back of his head hit it hard, and that made it hard to see when there were dark spots that kept dancing across his vision.

"Do not touch me, or speak to me or my girlfriend ever again. The same goes for Marinette. Consider this a warning, Agreste. We don't like you and we never did. Stay away from us."

He shoved him again for good measure, as if trying to merge him with the wall, as he let go.

As Adrien watched him leave, tears started to well up in his eyes but he blinked them away. Crying wasn't going to help anything.

He turned to face Marinette, who had been quiet and watching the whole time. Her face was blank.

"Mari...?"

She stepped closer to him. Hope tried to climb its way into his chest. Maybe Marinette wasn't angry and disappointed in him, like everyone else seemed to be. Marinette had always been a nice person.

As he thought this, he felt a stinging sensation on his left cheek. Marinette's hand was in the air inches away from his face. She had slapped him.

That was bad enough on its own, but what she said next made his heart crumble.

"I can't believe I ever thought you were my friend."

She left him there, alone at the top of the steps, grazing his cheek with his fingertips.

The scene switched again. He was now Chat Noir, and he was on the Eiffel Tower.

He didn't understand who else could possibly be out to break his heart, but when Ladybug appeared in front of him, he fit the pieces of the puzzle together perfectly. He wouldn't be able to take it if she broke his heart. Not after everything he's been through. She was the one person that he cared about the most, more than his father, more than his friends.

More than himself.
