Third Person P.O.V.
Much didn't happen today.
He woke up, did some online schoolwork (since he was homeschooled), played his guitar for a bit, and then took a stroll around the city. Upon returning home, he couldn't help but think of Marinette.
He was excited about her birthday tomorrow. He remembered what happened a day ago, when they had talked on the phone for a few hours. Marinette had called to invite him to come to the party, which was what she had been doing to any friends of hers that she had outside of school.
"Hello?" He said when he answered his phone at the time. It had rung and rung for a while because he had been smiling ridiculously at the phone when her name lit up on the screen. He didn't even realize he was doing it until his mother shouted for him to answer the phone from the next room.
"Hey, Luka!" She greeted cheerfully. "How have you been lately?"
"I'm good. How about you?"
"I'm great! But that's mostly because my birthday is coming up in a couple days and I wanted to personally invite you to the party." There was a short pause. "So... will you come? I mean, it's okay if you have plans, I wouldn't want to bother you or anything-"
"Of course I'll be there! As if I'd miss one of my closest friend's birthdays. I can tell how important this is to you." Luka assured her quickly.
"Thank you so much! I wish I could hug you through the phone." Marinette replied.
Luka suddenly remembered an important detail of what's to happen on Marinette's birthday. He internally facepalmed himself for forgetting.
"Uh, Marinette, I just remembered. I have to help my mom clean the boathouse that day. There's a big event coming up, so she wants the place to be spotless."
"Oh.." Marinette responded. He could literally feel the way her heart sank after hearing that news. She must have been really looking forward to him coming to her party.
"It's okay, though." He said quickly. "It shouldn't take too long to fix up the place. I'll be at the party before you know it."
"Hmm..." Was all Marinette said. She sounded thoughtful. Then he heard her snap her fingers over the line like, "Eureka! I've discovered the cure for cancer!"
"What if I helped you and your mom clean the boathouse? It could help you finish faster. And you would have the rest of the day off."
"I couldn't ask you to do that for me, Marinette. Not on your birthday."
"But I want to. Besides, if we finish early, we'll get a chance to hang out toge- with out friends later."
It was probably just him, but Luka could have sworn she was about to say the word 'together', as in him and Marinette, if she hadn't stopped herself in time. For some reason, that made his heart do weird flips inside of his chest.
"But Mari, I can't-"
"No buts."
"However-"
"No howevers either."
"Marinette-"
"No refusals." The tone in her voice signaled that it was final and that was that. End of discussion.
Luka sighed, but a grin somehow made its way across his face. Who knew she could be so stubborn?
"Fine." He admitted defeat.
He could hear the triumph in her voice as she said, "Score 1 for Marinette, Score 0 for Luka." And then she laughed. Hearing her laugh made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside for reasons he didn't understand.
"I'll catch up to you." He promised, jokingly.
"Keep dreaming, Luka." She answered teasingly.
They talked and talked for hours, until Marinette finally exclaimed that she had lost track of the time and had to call her friends and invite them to the party as well. They said their goodbyes and hung up.
Now, Luka thought about all the times they had together, from when they first met, to now. Time really does fly fast. And time especially did wonders to Marinette.
Recently, he had decided to work on a little special birthday gift for her and her alone. He had it all planned out. It was going to be perfect. Hopefully, he didn't screw it up.
He looked at the time. It was a little late into the evening, about 5:30 pm. Maybe he could swing by the Dupain-Cheng bakery and help out with party decorations. After all, if Marinette was going to help out Luka, then he might as well return the favor.
He had already left and was making his way to her home, when Ladybug swung by.
She dropped in front of Luka, picked him up bridal style and proceeded to hop from one roof to the other.
Luka was quite surprised, but he didn't question it. He suspected that Ladybug was taking them someplace safe, so that he'll be able to transform.
Which only meant that an akumatized person was on the loose.
As Ladybug kept running with him in her arms, the only thought swarming his mind at the moment was, "Why now?"
Right when he was about to knock on the door, Ladybug just had to swing him out of the way right then? Really?
He sighed silently. He had a whole day tomorrow to talk to Marinette, hang out with her, and enjoy her company. He needed to be patient. It would all be worth it tomorrow.
But right now, Paris needed them. Marinette could wait. For now.
