Chapter 5: The Picnic

I wake up from my deep sleep as a sudden bright light hits my face. I attempt to open my eyes several times, but the light is too bright. My eyes eventually adjusts with the light and I see Peggy standing in front of my window.

''Good morning, Peggy'' I said as I yawn.

''Good morning, princess'' She says as she walks over to my canopy bed.

''I brought you some tea'' She says as she takes a seat at the end of my bed and focussing her eyes on the end table where a tray was placed. There's a glass teapot placed on the tray, infused with roses.

''Rose tea?'' I ask.

''Yes. It's very good for you'' She says as she walks towards the tray.

''I'll pour it myself'' I said smiling and pushing my body into sitting position.

''Very well then'' She says smiling and sits again.

As I scoot closer to the end table, I notice my book still on my lap. I don't think I even read the whole chapter last night. I remove it from my lap and place it next to me. I reach out to grab the teapot and start pouring some tea into the light pink teacup. The strong aromas hit my nose and reminds me about turkish delight.

''It smells good'' I said as I take a big sniff.

''Rose tea is very good for you. Since you had such a stressful day yesterday, I decided to surprise you with something else'' Peggy says as she takes the teapot from me to pour some for herself.

I take a sip. It's a bit bitter since I don't drink sugar, but I have gotten used to the bitter taste. I am barely allowed to drink or eat sugar, because it's unhealthy.

''It's quite good'' I nod my head as I take another sip.

''Rose water has several benefits you know? It's an antioxidant, helps with stress, detoxes the body and fights infections'' She says as she looks at the teacup with amusement.

''I meant to say that it's good'' She says smiling embarrassed.

''That's very interesting'' I said laughing when I further exclaim, ''What's the time?''

''It's a few minutes past eight'' She said.

''I should get dressed. I have a date with Lorna and Stefan'' I said as I drink the remaining liquid and stand up.

''With the wardrobe?'' She asks shocked.

''Yes''

''Does your grandma know about this? You know the rules about having relationships with employees''

''Don't worry, I know what I'm doing. She won't find out'' I said as I open my dresser.

''I hope so for your sake'' She says as she finishes her tea and stands up to collect the tray.

''I'll be alright'' I grab a short summer dress from the dresser. It has puffy sleeves and has pink flowers on it.

I see Peggy exiting the room and giving me a small smile. I know she is just trying to protect me from Grandma but I am almost 18 anyway so what do I have to lose. My time is limited in this castle and soon I will be out of here with my new husband.

I dress into the summer dress and decide to put two strands of hair into space buns. I walk to my bathroom to brush my teeth and do my usual makeup. I grab some white cotton socks with pink bows on the side and my baby doll shoes.

I wonder if I was supposed to make any lunch for the picnic. What if I had to and show up with nothing to offer?

I decide to continue reading my book from last night since I will still be waiting for Lorna and Stefan. I go sit in my chair in the corner of the room, right where my window is based and start reading.
