Ashley was still with Arron. Robert the royal representative was in Norhanda as he was to search for Ashley.

One morning Ashley had to go to the market and saw a boy about her age smiling at her, but she didn't smile back, she just lowered her head and walked towards the grocers market. The boy looked confused because no one had ever turned him down. His name was Luke he had pitch black hair with green eyes as green as the grass at the beginning of summer. He was kind to all the people and he had many, many friends.

Every time Ashley went to the market he smiled and waved at her, but she always just lowered her head and walked away. One day Luke thought that he had finally had enough of her constant rejection so he went to Ashley and asked if he could help carry her groceries. She shook her head and softly whispered no thank you to him. "But I insist, a pretty girl like you shouldn't be carrying heavy things, leave that to strong men like me." he said grinning.

He grabbed the bags from her hands. She quickly followed after him. While they were walking he kept trying to have a conversation with her, but she kept giving short quick answers to him and as soon as she got to her house she waved him goodbye and he gave her a soft kiss on the cheek as he left.

She blushed and smiled the whole night long. She just couldn't get him out of her mind, but at dinner she ate while daydreaming. Then suddenly Arron shouted at her, " You made awful food for me to eat and you tried to make what... a friend today!" He looked at her with a furious glare. "I'm sorry, but he didn't want to leave me alone and as for the..." "I didn't give you permission to talk girl!" He shouted and threw her plate off of the table and then he left the room. Ashley started to cry softly. She had always thought of running away, but she knew that if someone would find her she would just end up back with Arron and then she would get a very horrible punishment so she knew that running away was not an option. The next day when she went to the market she saw a royal note on the community board. It said that the entire town was to meet at city hall at two for an important announcement. She looked up at the glare of the sun and realized that it was five minutes away from two so she ran towards city hall. She saw that most of the town had already arrived. Robert the royal representative from Aestria was also there. "Welcome everyone, now I know you're all wondering why we have called you here. We have a surprise for all girls and boys from the age of fifteen to seventeen there will be a royal spring ball at the castle you've all been invited personally by the King and Queen of Aestria. We would want everyone to attend the ball and formal wear is required so gowns and suits would be needed. The ball will be in two and a half weeks from now. Good day to all." Robert said as he waved and left the stage.

Ashley was quite excited, although she knew she would never be able to go. She heard all the girls and boys whispering around her with excitement. She loved the idea of being able to wear a fancy gown, going to a fancy palace and dancing with handsome boys. Whom of course she would of hoped one to be Joshua.

Later that afternoon she saw Joshua outside her house and went over to him. "Hi Joshua." She said softly. "Hi I would you like to um- go to the um-, the um dance, I mean ball the spring ball with um- me." Joshua said sweating with a worried expression on his face. "Come again?"Ashley asked.
"Wouldyouliketogotothespringballwithme."he asked and then let out a big sigh. Ashley giggled. "I would love to, but I can't." She said. "Why not." Joshua asked confused. "Okay um, promise to never tell anyone what I'm about to tell you?"Ashley said with a serious face. Joshua nodded. "Arron treats me very badly and to tell you the truth I'm not his daughter just his personal slawe and he wouldn't allow me to go to the spring ball."She said sadly. Joshua looked sad, but then a mischievous smile spread across his face. "I could ask my mother to organize something with Arron?"

She could ask him if she could borrow your services and then we could go to the ball together." He said. "That could work, but where am I going to get a dress?" She said. "My sister Jeanette would be able to lend you her old ball gown." He said enthusiastically.

Two days later everything was organized. She was going to go to 'work' for Miss Mellow (Joshua's mother) the night of the ball or well that's what Arron thought. Then she would go back when the ball finished and she would spend the night at Joshua's house and then she would return early in the morning and Jeanette had a wonderful white and gold coloured dress for her to wear. Everything was starting to fall in place.
