**April’s POV**
“Here’s April, madam.” said Nanny. Madam. I feel disgusted. I scowl in the sound of it. I feel my anger rose in my chest. I feel hatred in my eyes and my hand closed into a fist. Harry squeeze my hand to let me know he’s there and somewhat calmed me down. My “mother” looked up with such an angelic face, too angelic for my liking and made my eyebrow raises.
“Thank you Elizabeth. You may now go.” She said and with that we’re alone. My mother looked me in the eye and I did the same thing. Tension building up between me and my mom and I can sense my brothers as well as Harry is feeling uncomfortable. I want to ease this uneasiness but I can’t help it. The hatred that was kept years ago started to build up again.
“It’s so nice that you paid a visit and entertain my invitation April.” She said calmly with a wicked smile in her face. I played a smirk before talking.
“It’s been a long time mother. How are you?” formal? It’s been that way ever since. She doesn’t want me to call her mom; instead I should call her mother. But when she’s not around, we (my brothers and I) call her mom.
“It’s been calm and very quiet ever since you left.” She paused. I felt pain I my chest when she said that, it’s like my heart’s been stab with knife. “Life’s been good. How about you?” I smirked evilly.
“My life’s been better since I left. It’s so nice that you felt the same.” I turned to my brothers.
“Long time no see, brothers.” They looked terrified, well, Jake seemed terrified. He’s ten and I know he’s scared.
“Any way, I’d like you to meet Harry. Harry, this is my mother.”
“Good day madam.” He smiled.
“Hello Harry. I’ve heard so much about you. I’m Abigail, April’s mother.” She smiled. I rolled my eyes.
“Now you met Harry, may we go?” I asked sarcastically.
“I would like to catch up with you. It’s been so long. I would like to know if you … changed.” She said.
“I changed?” I said amused. “Nothing changed mother, and there is nothing to talk about. Since when did you care?” I can’t contain my anger anymore; it feels like I’m going to explode any minute. Harry squeezed my hand again to calm me.
“Joshua, will you and Jacob accompany Harry to the living room, say, to know each other.” She turned to Josh. Nobody moved.
“Go on.” She said. I looked at Harry and I nodded. Josh and Jake rose from their seat and walked toward us.
“Come.” Josh said. Harry nodded and walked with them. They closed the door and we’re alone again. Me and my mom.
“Sit.” She said. The angelic voice gone, her face, passive. I sat in the chair infront of her table.
“What do you want to know?” I said bitterly.
“How was living alone?” she asked.
“Do you really want to know?” I inquired.
“Sure.”
“It’s the best feeling in the world. No nagging every morning, no brother insulting me, no mother favoring him. Just me and myself. I don’t have to please anyone. No pressure, absolutely the life I wanted.” I said bitterly.
“Glad you liked it.”
“Liked? More like love.” I snapped.
“Where … where did you met Harry?” silly question mom.
“Who doesn’t know Harry?” I asked sarcastically.
“April!” she said.
“So you’re acting like a mother now? Trying to know everything about my boyfriend like any other mother on earth? You’re treating me like you daughter now ey?” without another word, I felt hotness in my cheeks. The tingling feeling I cannot say I missed. I looked at my mother with a devilish smile and eyes fired with hatred.
“It’s been a long time since I felt you slap my cheeks. Did you miss it so much that you have to do it again?” I smirked.
“You worthless, ungrateful child!!! How dare you speak to your mother like that?!”
“Mother?!” did I heard that right? Mother? Since when did you become my mother? When did you made me feel like you’re my mother? WHEN?!”
“Who sends you to school?” dad.
“Who buys you clothes?” dad.
“Who feeds you when you’re hungry?” nanny Elizabeth.
“WHO?!” she yelled.
“Clearly NOT YOU!” I screamed. She looked taken back. Didn’t she expect me to be like this? Thought she knows me. Guess not.
“Not me?” she gritted.
“Who sends me to school? Who buys me clothes? Its dad. Thought I didn’t know? who feeds me? Who cares? Who helps me take a bath when I was little? It was nanny. It was NEVER you. When I moved out, who said I should stay? Definitely not you. Since when did you care? I’m worthless? Ungrateful? What’s there to be grateful about when all my life all you think about is your sons and not me—your only daughter. You think I didn’t notice? You think it was okay with me? All those fights, do you think I loved it? do you think I did that on purpose? Probably sometimes I did. You know why? Because PROBABLY, I’m hoping that you would stand up for me against those people who bullied me, or against my older brother who thinks he is all high and mighty. But no. you didn’t. NEVER in my life did I thought you love me. Because all I’m seeing is that you loathed me. Like you never wanted me here. Like if you could open the gates of hell just to put me back where I came from you would. That’s how I felt and it will never change. So, mother? I don’t have that. I never had that. I never felt I have one. Well, it’s nice to see you again madam. Hoping this will be the end. Goodbye.” I said everything I want, everything that is hidden inside my heart. All those pain I kept inside. With tears in my eyes, I exited the study. The room that made me releases all the anger. I shouted at the top of my lungs and like instant, Harry and my brothers together with my nanny went out of the living room.
“April?” Harry asked.
“Let’s go.” I said in a low voice. I walked towards the door when a hand stopped me. I looked back to know whose hand is stopping me and to my surprise, it’s Josh.
“Let’s talk.” I smirked.
“What for?”
“Please?” he said in the most sincere way I’ve ever seen he did. Harry placed a hand on my shoulder, telling me to go on. I sighed and Josh let go. We left the room and made our way to the garden. We sat in the new wooden carved couches.
“April.” He started to say.
