Scout

It was early in the morning when you were woken up by some noise. You looked over at Jeremy who was fast asleep, not bothered by the noise. You got up and headed out to investigate the noises. To your surprise, you walked into the kitchen to see your 10-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter trying to make pancakes.

"What on earth are you two doing?" You said making the two children jump.

"Mom! What are you doing up? Dad isn't up, is he?!?" Thomas asked.

"I'm up because of the noise you two are making and no, your father isn't up. You're lucky he sleeps like a rock." You laughed a little. "You didn't answer my question."

"We're making daddy pancakes for Father's Day!" Jenny said with a big smile.

You laughed walking over to them.

"That's very nice of you two but you should have woken me up first before cooking on the stove. Here let me help you." You explained grabbing the pan.

The three of you finished cooking the pancakes, some of which look like a car hit them but it was the thought that counts. Once they were all done, you grabbed the plate and walked with the two children into your and Jeremy's room, where Jeremy was still asleep. You sat on the bed and Jenny and Thomas sat on the end of the bed.

"Jeremy, sweetheart wake up." You said shaking his shoulder.

Jeremy rolled over, rubbing his eyes.

"What is that amazing smell?" Jeremy asked.

"HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!" Jenny and Thomas yelled.

Jeremy was surprised by the two holding out food for him.

"We made pancakes just for you." Thomas smiled.

Jeremy took the plate from them, he looked at it before a tear ran down his cheek.

"What's wrong Daddy? Don't you like pancakes?" Jenny asked scared they did something wrong.

"No, I love it! There's just something in my eye." Jeremy said wiping his tears away. "Hey, can you two get me a drink, please."

The two children nodded running out of the room. You looked at Jeremy.

"Hey, what's wrong." You asked wrapping your arms around Jeremy.

"It's nothing... I just... I'm still not used to nice things happening on Father's Day." Jeremy said looking at you. "I know I been a dad for a few years now but it still feels weird, you know. I remember hating this day because it reminded me that I didn't have a dad."

Jeremy places the plate on the bed and reaches under the bed. He pulled out a small box with a tag on it.

"What's that?" You asked.

"It's a gift for spy..." Jeremy looked down at the box. "I figured it was the first Father's Day that he actually deserved something from me. Ever since he told me the truth, he's been trying so hard to be a good dad and at first, I didn't trust it, but now I see he really does care about me."

You smiled pulling Jeremy close.

"That's so sweet of you, Jeremy." You whispered. "What did you get him?"

"I will have to admit it wasn't easy but I had to do a little spying of my own to find a good gift for him." Jeremy laughed. "But I got him this nice watch he's been looking at getting."

"I'm sure he'll love it." You told him.

Jeremy smiled placing the box down. Thomas and Jenny soon came back into the room with a glass in hand. The four of you sat together, enjoying the morning together.
