Thomas paced around his room, pausing in front of the mirror for probably the tenth time, despite trying to come up with the best way to ask someone out.
"Hey, you and I are both really cool people we should go out sometime... God that sounds stupid..." Thomas groaned, banging his head against his dresser.
"Hey Thomas, what's with all the banging noises?" Jeremy asked, walking into the room. "Why are you banging your head against your dresser?"
Thomas turned around embarrassed.
"No reason!" Thomas said.
"Are you sure?" Jeremy asked.
"Yeah, I'm completely fine." Thomas forced a smile and gave a thumbs-up.
"Okay, I'll leave you be then," Jeremy said, turning towards the door.
Thomas thought for a moment, before speaking up.
"Dad, how did you ask Mom out?"
Jeremy paused, turning back to Thomas.
"Um.. well, I took her out to the park and after we went for a walk, I asked her to be my girlfriend," Jeremy explained. "Why do you ask?"
Thomas looked down for a moment.
"I want to ask someone out...." Thomas muttered quietly.
"What?! Why didn't you say so, I could help you! I'm amazing with love advice!" Jeremy smiled. "Who is the lucky lady?"
Thomas frowned, rubbing his arm.
"It's no one special..." Thomas said, not wanting to tell Jeremy who it was.
"Oh come, she has to be really special if she caught your eye," Jeremy said.
"I don't want to tell you about them, it's not important," Thomas said.
"Why? Is it someone I know or don't like? I hope it's not Ludwig's daughter or one of Mundy's daughters, 'cause Ludwig and Mundy would probably kill me if it is." Jeremy said.
Thomas sighed, closing his eyes for a moment, trying to calm down. Jeremy noticed how tense Thomas was getting and moved close to him. He rested his hands on Thomas' shoulders.
"Thomas, hey. It's okay, you can tell me. I won't be mad no matter who this girl is." Jeremy reassured him.
Thomas opened his eyes and looked at Jeremy.
"Dad, I want to ask out a guy," Thomas said.
Jeremy froze, looking at Thomas shocked.
"You're... you're gay?" Jeremy asked.
"Well no... I like guys but I like girls too. I'm bisexual." Thomas said, feeling tears run down his face. "You hate me now, don't you?"
"No no no!" Jeremy panicked. "It's not that, I'm just surprised! I would never hate you for that!"
"You're not mad?" Thomas asked.
"No, god no! I could never get mad at you because of your sexuality." Jeremy explained. "I mean, I know how you feel."
Thomas looked at Jeremy confused.
"I'm bisexual too," Jeremy admitted.
"But you married Mom," Thomas said.
"Thomas, just because I married a woman, doesn't mean my attraction to men went away," Jeremy said. "It's still there, what matters is I found my soulmate, it doesn't matter what gender they are."
Thomas couldn't help but cry more, though it was tears of joy instead of sadness. Jeremy hugged Thomas, rubbing his back to calm him.
"Who you choose to spend your life with is your decision and I'll be happy for you no matter who you end up with," Jeremy whispered.
"Thank you, Dad," Thomas said, wiping his tears.
"No problem, Thomas," Jeremy said.
Thomas thought for a moment.
"His name is Nicolas," Thomas said. "He's the guy I want to ask out."
"Miss Pauling's new assistant?" Jeremy asked.
Thomas nodded.
"He's just so perfect." Thomas sighs. "He's really smart and talented and his glasses are always crooked and it's so cute... He just gives me butterflies in my stomach."
Jeremy smiled, Thomas reminds Jeremy of how he was when he was younger and he explained the people he liked to Jacques.
"I've felt like that before." Jeremy laughed. "It is truly an amazing and sometimes nerve-racking feeling."
Thomas laughed a bit but still felt a bit scared.
"What if other people hate me for who I love..." Thomas said.
Jeremy pulled Thomas closer.
"Thomas, no matter what others think of you, your ma and I will always love you and protect you if anyone ever gives you trouble," Jeremy said. "Oh, and your grandfather would love you too."
"How do you know that?" Thomas asked.
"Because he accepted me," Jeremy said. "Plus I'm 99.9% sure he swings both ways too."
"What really?!" Thomas said, shocked.
"Yeah, one time he got really drunk and wouldn't stop talking to me about how much he thought Mundy was hot." Jeremy laughed a bit. "But let's not get into all of that, we have to deal with your love problems. I have a lot of amazing skills for seducing people no matter their gender. Trust me, by the end of the week, you'll be able to sweep Nicolas off his feet."
Thomas smiled, excited to see where these love lessons go.
(A/N - Okay this has just become a running theme of me not being able to sleep and wanting to write on nights when I have to work the next day. Either way, I'm happy to get this one out, I have been wanting to write a short story focusing on the mercs. kids for a while and I've wanted to dive into more personal things that they deal with. I plan to do more of these in the future, I just have a few requests, future au, and other planned chapters to write too. Anyway, I hope you like this short chapter, and stay safe!)
