“Oh my gosh, that was amazing!” Sara said happily as her and Oliver walked down the street on their way home.

They had just been on their way home from dinner with Tammy and Patrick, and even though they both felt like they were intruding since the two had been dating, they still had a good time nonetheless.

“Yeah, the food was really good,” Oliver agreed, watching as Sara smiled in satisfaction.

Looking back over at him, she spoke in a small sympathetic tone, “it’s a shame Joe was sick tonight, it would have been fun to have him there with the rest of us, Vicky too!”

As a small hint of sadness crossed his expression, Oliver felt a small pang in his chest upon hearing those words. Of course she still liked Joe, why would she like him over his perfect brother? He softly sighed, quiet enough that Sara hadn’t heard it, but as soon as she noticed his expression change, her expression changed to confusion, but she simply brushed it off as just Oliver being Oliver with his natural grumpiness.

However, the second he looked back at her all of his sadness flushed away and he pulled out his phone and a pair of earbuds, “wanna listen to something?”

She eagerly nodded, taking one of the earbuds and placing it in her ear. With the short length of the wires, her and Oliver were forced to move just that little bit closer to each other to keep the buds from falling out, and both of them blushed slightly, except Oliver a little more than just slightly.

However, with the earbuds still barely staying in even as they got closer, Sara stepped in a bit more and linked her arm with Oliver’s to create less distance, saying as she did it, “is this okay? It’ll be a bit easier.”

Barely able to collect his thoughts with the girl so close to him, practically leaning up against him, he knew she was looking towards his face so he just nodded, knowing that if he tried to speak he’d probably end up with an awkward stutter or voice crack. Not wanting to make a fool of himself, he stayed quiet and was basically holding his breath, desperately hoping she couldn’t tell how nervous he was.

“Okay, cool,” she looked back forward, still smiling as she had been.

For a few minutes that felt like an eternity to the awkward boy, they continued walking home like that as they listened to music. After the song they had been listening to ended, another one came on, one that Sara recognized all too well. Hearing this song, her and Oliver both had their memories from their night at the school festival come flooding back to them. While they both cringed a bit at how it had ended, they instead focused on their time at the table, chatting about music and bands they liked.
