I'm back!

Walking into my apartment at the end of the day, it felt like a humungous weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I had been going all day, and with my brain in overdrive, I needed to recharge. I tossed my bag in the corner, leaving it by the front door with the rest of my issues.

I pulled up my shower playlist before stepping into the hot water. This was the only time that I could sing to my heart's content and have it be pleasing to my own ears.

Not quite dying cat, but I'm not winning any Grammys either.

And as much as I tried to block out my own inner thoughts with my voice, I couldn't help but think about work and Nicolas. But mostly Nicolas.

I don't know what I expected when I went to his office, but It sure wasn't for him to take Abernathy's side without even listening to me.

He's known Abernathy longer than you.

But Abernathy's an asshole.

Not to him.

I really hated my inner monologue sometimes. Always trying to go about things logically. It was stupid and directly contradicted the emotional thoughts I wanted to have justified.

He was just trying to keep the peace.

Well, he did a shitty job. And he could've at least listened to my side of the story before choosing Abernathy's.

The reasoning part of my brain had nothing to say about that one.

Because I was right. But I needed to hear it and I knew just who to call.

I splayed out on my towel on my bed, letting my ceiling fan air dry my body whole I dialed the numbers into my phone.

"June Bug?" I smiled at the sound of my mother's voice. She purposefully made my middle name June just so that she could call me June Bug. Parker June Fields. I'm sure you can guess she was a bit of a hippie. When I finally grew up and asked her why she thought anyone was gonna care what she, my own mother, called me, she didn't have an answer and if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about my mother, I don't know what will.

"Hi, Mom."

I heard some rustling before the line was clear again. "Hey, you okay?"

More rustling. "Yeah, a little worn out, but I'm okay."

She sighed. "Yeah, well, you know, your favorite clothes are the ones that get worn out over and over again."

There was silence on the line before both of us burst out laughing. "What the heck was that supposed to mean Mom?"

"I don't know, but it sounded good, didn't it?"

I heard rustling for the third time before I questioned her. "Mom, what the heck are you doing?"

"I'm trying to find my dreamcatcher so I can hang it out in the garden, but after moving, I don't know where half of this stuff is."

I pinched the bridge of my nose. "Dreamcatcher in the gar- Mom, what is a dreamcatcher going to do in the garden?"

"It's gonna give the plants more positive energy so they can grow and be beautiful."

"I don't think that's how that works Mom."

She humphed and I heard her voice change as she switched over to speakerphone. "Well, it sounds like you need one June Bug. What's got your panties all in a twist?"
