Silence in the hopsital was soon broken.  It shattered into pieces, and rested along the floor, and made a trail, heading out of the front doors.  It mixed with a trail of... crimson?  Blood?

Something didn't look right.

"GET OUT OF THE WAY!"

The people in the halls fled to make space, as three nurses were pushing someone, who was covered in a snow white blanket, with only one foot hanging out.  The foot was covered in crimson.  The blood danced out of the big toe, and made a tear drop looking trail along the floor.  He was stabbed.

"Come on!" Martin hissed, as he dragged me in the other direction.  He pulled me aside just then.  "What were you doing all of yesterday?  I tried looking for 'ya!  Your mum sent a letter to you!  I wanted to give it to you yesterday.  Before you get tested, read this."

I took the letter, and stared at it for a moment.  Martin had already opened it.  Martin had probably read it already.  He usually does before he gives me letters.  Only my e-mail remains in my privacy.

Dear Dexter,

Your father and I are having a wonderful time on our vacation.  However, we miss you like crazy.  Please understand that.  Your father and I have bought many gifts for you.  We are planning on being home in one month.  And the day we return home, we will come and visit you.  And then we will give you your gifts  Isn't that exciting?  Dexter, your father and I love you.  If you think that we don't, then you are insane.

Love,

Mom

"They may love me," I said under my breath, "but I don't love them."

The room I was sitting in made my stomach feel uneasy.  It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks, since the walls were starting to look a little tan, rather than white, as they usually are.  The bed was new.  It was a lot softer than the last bed.  The tools that surrounded me looked newer, as well.  However, I noticed some dried crimson on some of the handles of the sharp tools.  I gagged a little, as Dr. Keystone came in, followed by Martin and another nurse.

"Dexter, are you ready?"

"No, but I'm here anyway, right?"

Martin glared at me.  "Hush, boy!  Let the doctor talk!"

"Martin," Dr. Keystone sighed, waving his hand, "It's fine!  I understand the boy is nervous, they all are.  All are nervous but Gabe, since he is the one who has been here longer.  And Hermine, she's so generous to be letting us test on her.  I like her reasoning."

"I don't."

"No one asked for your opinion, honey," said the small, red headed nurse.  She wrapped the blood pressure thing around my arm.

Yet, something wasn't feeling right.  It felt sharp.  It wasn't painful, but just... sharp?  And I began to feel weaker.  I wasn't able to see anything.  My heart began to race, but it only made it worse.  Blood was being taken out of me.  They were taking away so much blood, that I couldn't see where I was, anymore!  I couldn't see where Dr. Keystone was, or Martin, or the red headed nurse.  I felt alone.  And I felt scared.  I was dying.  They were killing me!

With whatever strength I had, I searched my hand around for the cord.  I searched and searched, until my hand wrapped around something plastic, and I used all of my remaining stregnth to pull.

And I soon felt better.

They were all gone.  Where were they?  Or a better question, where are some band-aids?  I had no power to walk.  I was dying each second.  I decided to just hover over to the other end of the room, wehre I found band-aids sitting by a first aid kit.  As I hovered, I began to feel better.  I grabbed a band-aid, and placed it on my upper left arm.  I looked down on the floor, and took a big sigh.  Then, I gasped.

Were there feathers sitting on the floor before?  I looked around, noticing that there were brown feathers following me from the bed, and to the first aid kit.

Whoosh!

Whoosh!

The sound was right by my ears.  I landed my feet, and went to the mirror that was sitting up against the wall.  My eyes almost popped out of my head in awe!  I moved my black bangs out of my face to see myself better.  And it was a beautiful sight!  I had finally gotten my Hawk wings!

"And the doctor was no where?" Tyler asked, as he pushed me in the wheel chair.  I was still feeling a little funny.

"That's right," I replied.  "Martin wasn't there, or the nurse that had followed him in."

"Weird... well I had the same thing happen to me, except the doctor remained in the room.  You'll be fine.  I drank tons of water.  I had to pee really bad, but it's worth it.  It will get your heart pumping soon."

"Hey guys!"

My heart jumped.  "Actually, Tyler, I think my heart is back on a normal rate."  I turned around to see Gabe running down the hall way.

"You guys!"  There is another boy here!  He's just like us!  Dr. Keystone just finished seeing him!"

That's probably where the doctor went.  Idiot...  "Where is the boy now?"

"He's in his room, just relaxing.  I talked to him.  He's smart, but a little cocky."

"You described yourself, Gabe."  Tyler bursted out into laughter.  "I'm just kidding.. sort of.. but what's the kids name?"

"He never said his name.  But I told him about all of us; you, me, Hermine, and Dexter.  He seems to want to talk to Dexter."

I was shocked.  "Tell him I'll see him when I get enough blood to last me for my life!"

An I wheeled away into my own room.
