"I'm glad we made up," Hermine grinned, as we walked down the hall way the next morning.
"Me, too," I smiled. "And I'm really sorry about yesterday's dumb argument. I let myself go too easily. You are a really nice girl, and I can see that you're positive."
Hermine shrugged her shoulders. "You can say that. Tyler sure says it all the time."
"Tyler is a good kid. He's scary when you first meet him, though." I shivered about my first encounter with him. Now, we're good friends.
A suddeen crash came from beind Hermine and I. I spun on my heels, as Hermine jumped back against the wall, eyes closed shut. I tried to see what made the noise. Hermine began to run away. I blinked, and followed her.
Where was she running off to? Are we in danger? Is something coming after us? After her? I wished I could ask her these questions now. She may have seen something. And if she did, it must not have been good.
And suddenly, I came to a hault. Hermine was gone. Had she taken a turn? Then, I saw here from the corner of my eye. "Come here!" she squeaked.
I didn't hesitate to answer. In reply, I ran to her. She was hiding in a supply closet. "What are we doing in here?" I hissed.
"Dr. Keystone... he's sending nurses out for me. He saw something in my brain waves. He thinks he knows how to block out my powers!"
"He' cant do that! That's criminal!" I was getting mad. "He'll have to go through me first!"
"Dexter, you're fourteen! I'm seventeen! Do you really think that you can take him down?"
"Hermine, age doesn't matter at this moment. What do we have that he doesnt?"
Hermine shook her head. "They can hurt us, still. My power isn't much. I can only see the past, present, and future. I have nothing cool like you and Tyler. He turns into a bear and you're a bird!"
Now, I shook my head. "I don't know if I'm a bird, actuallly. I mean, I'm growing wings, I will admit that. Dr. Keystone said that they aren't bird bones. Now, all I can do is float a little. Either way, we can do something!" I tried to make her come with me. I tried to sound as convincing as I could.
Hermine paused. She looked out of it. I saw her eyes flash white. It scared me. I jumped back, and ran out of the door. I dashed past some kids running down the hall way, and flew around the corner. I almost reached my room, before a sharp pain hit me in the face, and I felt pain along my spine.
"Hey, Dex," said a familiar, deep voice.
I groaned. "Really? Today?"
"Yes, today! We never finished our game from yesterday! I belileve we are on question three now?"
"That was your third question. Move onto question four." I stood up, and straightened out my shoulders. Gabe had smacked me along the side of my face.
"You are a very smart boy. Question four; how long do you suppose your staying?"
"Not even a year. Didn't Hermine tell you that she told me how long I was staying?"
Gabe didn't answer. "Walk and talk with me, Dex."
"It's Dexter," I scoffed.
That didn't stop him from walking. I followed along, waiting to see what other questions he would ask. They would probably be dumb, or smart. And they would probably try to trick me. I tried not to think about it, since I knew that Gabe could read my thoughts.
