The Knowles' Ranch

The hairs on my body stood up in shock, I heard the front doorknob jingle with excitement and knew I had to find Onika soon.

"Babe, they're here!" I yelled, climbing down the ladder to wipe my dusty hands on the baggy, distressed jeans I had on.

"They are, and they brought the babies with them," Onika cooed. With a cold glass of water in her hand and a new rag, she handed me the much needed aids and cuddled into my side as we stood in the foyer of the ranch home we'd been vacationing to for the past two decades or so.

"Dada! Look!"

Our granddaughter ran towards us, giggling at the funny faces I continued to make while Onika cooed at the fact that she looked exactly like Beaux did when he was a baby. Her innocence was beautiful, just as her ability to love unconditionally was. It was a gift only the ones coming and going were gifted—the vision beyond earthly realm.

"What, baby?" Beaux smiled at his daughter, looking entirely past us and straight out of the window.

"Look!" She giggled again, pointing at me as I bent down to see her face to face. Onika's hand rested on the back of my neck as I teased our granddaughter for the first time in her two years of living.

"What're we looking at, baby?" A beautiful, cocoa skinned woman asked sweetly. Beaux pointed directly towards us, but to the adults it picture to be the trees outside of the window.

"Skai is obsessed with the trees, babe," Beaux picked the baby up, she smiled as I stood up and wrapped my arm around my woman, her grandmother.

Onika waved, gaining a wave out of Skai as she giggled into her father's neck. "Let's take her outside then," his wife insisted.

He shuddered as Onika caressed his head that was free from the bouncy curls he had growing up. "My baby," Onika cried.

"That's a grown man," I said.

His wife watched on weirdly, feeling the energy of the house out as he stared directly out of the window. "Y-Yeah, Ben should be here in a minute....I'll leave the door unlocked."

Skai's eyes glimmered with knowing as her father left the room, she waved towards Onika again, making the older woman smile wider than I'd ever seen her smile in....ever.

"Clairvoyance?" I asked, her uncle, Bryce, had it. Her father was still enjoying the products of earth. There was no rush to open his eyes just yet, maybe he had his baby girl to see for him instead.

"So early," Onika clapped.

I downed the glass of water and belched right before Bryce opened the door. I figured Bryce would have kids last, there was a baby baking in his wife's oven instead of crying in her arms.

"She doesn't know, huh?" Nika asked, watching the petite woman with a head full of unruly curls unpack the wine bottles for adult night.

"We'll fix it later," I assured her.

"Do you feel that?" Bryce's fiancée whispered, shuddering as our son did away with her coat.
