POV: Layla Hesser
Location: The Black Forest a few miles outside of Plagg Kingdom
Time: 6:47pm
I place my hand on a nearby tree as I bend over, trying to catch my breath. A hunter had spotted me in my elemental wolf form, which can be distinguished by the markings on our fur. I was one of the more rare breeds of an elemental wolf. I was the creator of Light and Darkness, good and evil for those who instead mock us. I stand up straight when I catch my breath and look behind me to see I had lost the hunter. I look up at the sky to see the sun setting, causing the atmosphere to change from yellow to orange to pink to purple to dark blue. I can see the stars starting to come out, and I knew I would have to find somewhere to take shelter for the night.
I look around and see that my fellow wolves had run off in different directions and that I would have to wait till morning to find them. I walk and find a trail a few feet away and decide to follow it. After what seems like hours based on the now blackened sky, I finally reach an opening of the woods. It's just a small clearing with what appears to be ruins of an ancient building that once stood tall and proud, now worn down by time and erosion.
I walk to one of the still-standing pillars, and I run my hand over the smooth, rough stone. I feel the coolness of the rock, and I decide to stay here for the night and sit down and lean against the pillar. I look up at the sky, watching the sparkling stars in the sky and tracing familiar constellations like the Little Dipper, Big Dipper, and Orion's Belt. I wondered if my fellow wolf friends were somewhere safe, looking up at the same sky as me. I feel the fatigue from the eventful day, pulling at my eyelids, which close and I find myself asleep.
I'm running in the woods, just escaped from the hands of an elemental wolf hunter. I can hear the horse's hooves pounding against the hardened ground as it gains on me. I pass by tall trees full of green leaves that rustle in the summer wind. I could feel the ground becoming more rockier and steeper, indicating that I was coming up to a cliff. The trees lessen till there are none, and I'm face to face with open-air as I standstill on the edge of the cliff. A good 300ft below is a roaring river, the water crashing against rocks and the sides of the peak.
I turn around to see the hunter with his comrades on horseback, start to close in on me. That's when it happened, that's when he saved me. I never caught his name or where he was from, but he came from out of thin air and took the hunter and his friends out. He had his back to me, but he never faced me. All I could see of him was a red ninja suit that he was wearing. I could see some brown hair sticking out from under his coverup. When I tried to approach him to thank him, he vanished in a flash.
I could see my fellow wolves had come and had to drag me away from the cliff, and that's when I went out of my trance as I ran with them back into the woods. 'Who was he?' 'Why did he save me?' I would ask myself these questions for the next few weeks. That's when I ran into the hunter, but this time the mysterious red ninja didn't save me, nor did he need to. I was able to outrun a hunter who had come across me and my friends. We were playing in a small waterfall in the woods.
I remember running so fast that I didn't give a second look back to see where my friends had gone. I just ran as I had run, everything blurred together, the trees, bushes, even the ground. As I slowed down, I had turned human, and my golden, blonde hair was flowing behind me from the wind. That's when I stopped by the tree and listened for any following footsteps to indicate the hunter had followed me. That's when I hear noth-
"Layla!"
Huh? Who's calling me?
"Layla, wake up!"
Wait, that voice is familiar.
"Layla, stop napping, you lazy wolf!"
Blair...?
I open my eyes and shield them with my arm from the bright sun. When my eyes adjust, I see Blair, Olwen, Dustin, Azar, Tempest, Darya, and Aither. Other than me, they are the only other elemental wolves alive. Thankfully they had found my scent and found me asleep at the ruins. Wait, I look around and see I'm not at the ruins, but instead in a room, and the bright sun is, in fact, bright lights in the room.
I look around, and I see the room I'm in is some master bedroom, and as I look, that's when I spot him. I could tell it was him by the familiar brown hair and the red ninja outfit he was still wearing. I avert my eyes to make it not seem like I was staring, and that's when I realized where I was just by looking at all the fancy interior walls and decorations and how neat the room was. Somehow I had ended up in a place at the Plagg Kingdom Castle, and that's when I asked the question.
"How did I get here?"
~I hope you guys enjoy the first chapter of this book! For those who may remember, I had written an elemental wolf book long ago, but discontinued it. I decided to bring it back with more characters and more plot! Don't forget to follow and leave a vote! -Zev
