It's a Monday December 14th, a friday. Snow covered the grounds and trees creating a winter wonderland. It was the first snow of the year freshly fallen and light, the perfect snow. I was walking across the field to the 9 10 building with Mel, her fourth block was right down the hall from me so we would walk together. She was skipping slash frolicking across the field well I carried her back pack. She was extremely happy, it made me laugh to see her like this. When we got about halfway through she stopped.
"What's wrong Mel?" I said with a very concerned voice. A second later she spun around and through a snowball at me, it hit me right in the gut. She stood there and laughed. I threw our backpacks on the ground and returned a throw. I hit her right in the shoulder. We both tried to put the most serious face on we could but failed miserably. So we laughed and continued throwing snowball after snowball.
We still had twenty minutes to kill before fourth block and spent it in a snowball fight. It was turning out to be the best twenty minutes so far this year until, I got an unexpected shot at my back. It was big and hard and didn't break apart, telling me it was made of ice. I turned with it clutched in my fist ready to throw it at my attacker. Who do I see standing behind me but Mike.
"You are so going to get it."
"We'll see about that, now won't we." He, of course, was surrounded by his posy like usual. The boys out numbered us two to one. The odds weren't good but neither was the slush they were standing in.
I sent the first throw towards them and hit one of his friends right between the eyes. Then we were off. The air was full of snowballs whizing back and forth in every direction. More people started to come over and join in. It turned out to be a full fledged boy vs. girl snowball war. All you saw was white and nothing else. Then out of the blue the bell rang and thirty or so kids trudged off the field and into the building for fourth block.
We were all out of breath and cold. Most trudged to the cafeteria to buy a hot chocolate before class. I found Mel and our bags covered in snow from head to toe. All I could do was laugh as she gave me a look of complete and utter annoyance. As we walked to class we talked about the battle and how much funny it was to see some of these kids wipe out from a big one.
I walked into class right before the bell rang, we were taking a test so we were in alphabetical order. As i walked past Mike's desk he looked up and smiled "That was fun" he said.
"Ya it was, wasn't it."
