The Curse

The Curse - Chapter 1

Note: This is all going to be told from Avery's point of view.

I yawned, blinking my eyes hard to get used to the sunlight. I climbed out of bed and to my closet. I threw on skinny blue-jeans and a pink sweater. I tied my white converse shoes and grabbed my school bag, half ready for the first day of school.

"Honey! What do you want for breakfast?" My mother asks me.

"I'll just grab a yogurt on my way out!" I replied. I walked downstairs and grabbed a yogurt. I went to my car and hopped in.

I drove and drove until I finally saw the sign for Devils Den High School. I know it must be a weird name, but that is the town's name. Devils Den, California.

I hopped out of my car and into school. I walked to the office to get my schedule, but I ran into a girl who I have never seen before. She must be new. I get my schedule then run after her.

"Hey! Are you new here?" I ask. She looks me in the eyes and tells me to leave.

"What?" I ask, completely baffled by her answer.

She turns around with a puzzled look on her face and mutters something about Ivan?

"I'm Avery," I say and shake her hand, noticing the pretty ring on her finger.

"I'm Clara." She replied, "nice to meet you."

"I love your ring! Can I try it on?" I ask

"No!!!" She orders. I throw my hands behind my ears like I'm surrendering. "Sorry," I apologize.

"You seem different," she points out.

"Okay......" I say, "let's get to our first class, we wouldn't want to be late on our first day of junior year!!"

She gives me a weird look but I just shrug it off and head to my class.

I walk inside and see some people I recognize.

I see someone that looks kind of like Clara, but he's a boy. I nudge her and point to him, "is that your brother?"

"Yep," she nods, "his name is Andrew."

"Cool, let's go sit with him!!" I say and see Andrew smile. Huh? I was whispering of course he couldn't hear me!

He was probably just smiling at seeing his sister or something. Clara and I head to where Andrew sits and we sit at the same table as him, along with my best friend, Katie.

We made conversation the whole class, barely paying attention to our teacher.

The bell rings for class to be over and we head out to our next class.

"I'm glad I met Clara and Andrew, they seem nice!" I say to Katie while we sit down next to each other in our next class.

"Yeah!" Katie agrees, "Let's actually pay attention this class?"

Katie is an amazing student and of course she wants to pay attention, which she does, while I zone off.

Finally, the bell rings and I run out of class and to my locker to get some food for break.

Katie meets up with me at my locker after she goes to her locker and we head to the cafeteria for Katie to buy some food.

We then go outside and sit on a bench and just talk.

"Hey guys!" I hear Clara say. I lift my head up to see Clara and Andrew.

"Hey!" Katie and I say at the same time. We laugh and Clara and Andrew sit down.

"Oh my, Clara! I love your shirt!" I said, while touching her arm for a second.

My eyes widened. "Uhhhhh," I manage to squeak out. When I touched her, I felt something. It was kind of like a vision.

"What's wrong?" Clara asked me.

I blink really hard, "I-I don't known I'm probably just tired," I shrugged.

Clara and Andrew exchanged looks like they could talk to each other through their heads.

"We need to talk," Clara said to Andrew and with that, they were off.

"What was that all about?" Katie asks me.

"I bet them having to leave was just some twin thing," I said.

"And I don't know what happened when I touched her, she was really cold for starters and I guess that's it," I lie.

Katie bites her lip and nods slowly, like she was trying to understand.

The bell rang for break to be over and I headed to my next class.
