The sun shone down onto Annaliese's face, warming her from head to toe. it is beautiful out here. absolutely magnificent. Above her the ancient cherry blossom tree has bloomed into its full glory and what a sight to behold. the different shades of pink in the petals would make an artist want to paint it over and over again. each time not fully capturing the trees full beauty. a seemingly eternal soft wind picks up the delicate petals and erupts into dance where the petals flutter around carelessly in the midsummer air.
her head is rested on her mothers lap, allowing her to look up into the boundless sky. her mothers back is resting against the old cherry blossom tree while she whistles a calming tune that fits in perfectly with the surroundings.
the stream down the path only a few minutes away can be heard gushing down the river towards the town and every so often the sound of fish jumping out of and back into the water is made. sweet melodies of birds who reside in this tree go along with her mothers own tune. the sound created feels perfectly pleasant against Annaliese's ears.
No words are exchanged as her mother plaits, unplaits and then combs her hair with her fingers. right here in this moment is where she fully feels at peace. no headaches curse her head and the daily stab of yearning for her family has stopped, relieving her from the pain even if it's only for a moment. it's almost too good to be true but Annaliese doesn't want it to stop. she never wants this to stop. her eyelids begin to droop and she allows the scenery to suck her into its glory. she was just another artifact in this picturesque place.
her eyes fully close for a mere second before I feel a dull tugging feeling in her body. Her mothers whistling began to slowly fade and all of a sudden her body began to jerk. another jerk wracks her body in shivers as Annaliese am pulled from my perfect memory and yanked back into the darkness that is reality. panicked voices abruptly come at her from every direction and she has no idea what is going on. once again her heart is reminded of the loss of my family and it breaks once more. how long can she live like this? all of the pain and anguish she has to handle each day is slowly getting on top of her. Annaliese can't open her eyes and all there is is darkness. it's the same darkness that is always tucked away at the back of her mind but only now is it visible. staring right back at her.
a soothing voice comes to her ear and warmth slides into Annaliese's veins like trickling water running out of a pipe and it somehow warms her whole body. the heaviness on her eyelids begins to lift and she can finally see the world again.
at first, the bright lights of the castles hospital shine way too much for her eyes to handle. almost blinding her. slowly Annaliese's eyes begin to adjust and she can see the familiar stark white walls and what seems like hundreds of faces beginning to peer down at her. she can almost feel their judging thoughts hitting her in the face.
what has she done this time? they seem to all mentally scream.
"she's awake!" annaliese hears someone exclaim instead. breathes of relief go through the whole room and possibly throughout the whole castle.
She could hear heavy footsteps rushing towards me. however she doesn't dare to see who it is as she feels as if her head will explode. and that would not be cute. Her fathers face comes directly Infront of hers so that he blocks out most of the lighting above nee.
"oh dear god are you okay" father rushes out all at once.
"father I'm fine... honestly" is all Annaliese can manage to say as she feels like someone has sand papered her throat. trying to prove a point, she attempts to sit up but is immediately pushed back down again by one of many doctors just because she winced a little at the wave of pain in her forehead.Annaliese's father sighs deeply before speaking.
"Annaliese please rest, that's the only thing you can do to get rid of the effects from the sleeping powder. the doctors are doing everything they can to get you up and running again but they need your cooperation" with a sigh Annaliese agrees to cooperating with a low mumble of protest and tries to get comfortable on the uncomfortable bed."and when you are well I would love to know how sleeping powder ended up in your system in the first place" Annaliese can't tell him the truth otherwise he will lock her away in my bedroom out of harms way. good thing that she has plenty of time to think of a lie while she's stuck in bed.
Her father was just about to leave the room when he turned back. "oh yes, do not dare to leave this room unless you are permitted to" and with that, he hastily Walked away. Annaliese presumed he did that so that he didn't have to answer any protests.
a long time ago when Annaliese was 7 she was playing hide and seek with one of the maids and tripped on the rug and fell down the main set of stairs. causing her head to split open and her wrist to break. when she was brought to the hospital wing in the castle She couldn't stand having to stay bedridden so When she was left alone, she removed all of the little wires from her body and tried to run all the way back to her room. obviously Annaliese was caught by a servant and brought straight back. since then, she has been deemed as the 'trouble maker' and everytime she comes to the hospital they put her under close surveillance. unfortunately.
the memory of the dream in the meadow resurfaces her mind and a smile is planted onto her face. the thought of wanting to be back there sends Annaliese back into a peaceful slumber. however this time there isn't a beautiful blossom tree and the familiar face of her mother to hide her from the harsh reality.
Annaliese wakes up due to a coughing fit which is definitely not appreciated. in a few seconds a nurse is at her side with a glass of water. all of this hassle just because of a bit of sleeping powder.
"nurse what time is it?" Annaliese choke out.
"madam its 3pm. you were sleeping for an awfully long time" she softly replies. The nurse excuses herself for a few minutes which gives Annaliese a chance to be able to move without having unwanted help.
She finds the strength to lift herself up into a sitting position with her back resting on a stack of fluffed pillows when a flash of colour attracts her eye. on the bedside table to the left of the bed lies a single coloured Rose. But she has no idea how It got there. before lifting it up Annaliese checks the room to make sure no one is watching her. otherwise she is certain that they would have started asking questions. She can't have them thinking that she has an admirer, or she would be married before the year was over.
Being careful she lift it up and begin to inspect it. how did this get here? and what a peculiar colour for a rose. beautiful none the less but peculiar. Annaliese's long fingers run against its feather like petals. but she can't seem to place her finger on where she had seen this same colour before and it was starting to annoy her. Annaliese then notices a little note stuck around the stem of the flower.
*until we meet again*
just as Annaliese reads the note, it catches alight, almost burning her fingers and it burns into ashes so that no proof of it is left behind. Realisation surges through her mind and Annaliese cannot control her actions when her body collapses back onto the bed. the only sounds that can be heard is the violet coloured rose hitting the floor and the rushed feet of nurses coming through the door and heading towards her before fear takes over my whole body, forcing me to sleep.
