Vanessa's P.O.V
Nervous. That's all I felt. What if this is not a good idea? Who would have thought that I would be transferring to a new college my junior year? I sure as hell did not. Let's just say that a lot went down and I couldn't stay at my old college and I needed to get out of that state. I moved here to California in hopes to let my past be the past and start fresh. Plus UCLA is a great school for film and television. It will benefit my career. Who needs Boston anyways. I won't have to deal with snow and below zero weather. I could even see some celebrities! I could also get an internship that will help me in my career. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts only.
Due to my late decisions to transfer I'm living off-campus in an apartment with one of my childhood friends, Emma. Emma and I were best friends until she moved out to Cali. We always stayed in touch but it was more wishing each other happy birthday or wishing them a happy holiday. I'm excited to catch up and see what her life has been like. Social media can only do so much.
I drive up to our apartment complex and let me tell you it is beautiful for the price, well at least better than the shithole I was living in before. I was worried about security, but there's a fence with security and surveillance making me feel more comfortable. Tall palm trees filled the road driving up. I'm definitely in California. Emma had secured the first floor saying it was the best spot because it was bigger but still the same price.
I pull into my parking spot and send Emma a quick text that I have arrived. The warm Los Angelos weather hits my face as I put my hair up in a ponytail. I made it here. Time for a fresh start and leaving the past behind me. I go to open my trunk to start unloading.
"Sa?" I heard behind me.
"Oh my god, Ma!" I scream when I see Emma. Her long light brown hair was softly curled. She was wearing blue leggings and a black cropped Aerosmith t-shirt with Nike Air Force 1's. She looked so pretty. She definitely fits into what I had envisioned the LA lifestyle to be.
"I can't believe you remember our nicknames Ma!" As I pull Emma into a tight hug. When we were five we thought we were cool calling each other these nicknames that literally is just the last two letters of our name. I really have missed her and she is someone I need to surround myself with right now.
"Sa how could I ever forget the best nicknames to exist?"
"I mean you're right, at least in our five-year-old minds." Emma and I both let out a laugh.
"Here let's start bringing your stuff inside so we can catch up faster," Emma says as she grabs one of the many bins.
Emma scans her I.D. getting her into the building. I see our door with a teal doormat that states "Hello Beaches" in white letters. I let out a small laugh as that is something Emma would have.
She always loved the beach and I still remember how excited she was to move out here for that reason only. It was the only thing that made her look forward to moving. She was devastated she was moving away and leaving me. We even had a plan to put me in her suitcase. Our parents realized that plan to soon and shut it down.
"Are you ready to see your new home?" Emma says getting me out of my thoughts on our past. I snap out of my daydream.
"Ma you have no idea."
Emma opens the door that will lead me to my new and refreshing life. The white walls were decorated with tapestry and frames of quotes and different pictures of travel. The living room was spacious and would be perfect for movie nights and hopefully for potential friends to come over. The apartment was much bigger than I thought. There are two wings splitting from the living room with a bedroom on each side.
