Love on the slopes

Kashmir was a winter wonderland when the snow fell heavily and surfaced on everything colorful to turn it into a spectacular white scenery in contrast with sometimes grey or blue sky.

"Narnia world" that's what she used to call it. Akshay smiled inside his ski helmet as he remembered something that his best friend would say.

He took a route through three feet of perfectly layered snow, instinct and local knowledge helping him find the perfect path through the deep powder. He was a skilled, aggressive skier, attacking the slopes with no visible signs of fear, regardless of the conditions. Whooping, he executed a run of smooth, perfect turns, gliding through the snow with fluidity and rhythm. Then, he swooped down into the glades, and weaved through snow-sculpted trees, their branches misshapen and heavy from the weight of their winter load. The only sound was the whisper of skis and the soft thud of snow falling on snow as he wound his way through hardwood forest at phase one towards Gandola.

She stood still, watching him move fluidly through the deep snow. He made it look effortless and easy as only an expert could.
It didn't matter whether he was bombing from the top to the bottom in a World Cup downhill, floating through deep snow or arcing on groomers, he was the best.

A supreme athlete, in tune with his surroundings.

Eventually, he paused at the landing and she tried to control her racing heart. She was finally seeing him after three years. Three long years that she had been away from her beautiful home, Gulmarg.

Away from him too who was nothing less than her home. She gulped and felt her cheeks sting from the cold.

"Akshay" she murmured to herself with a soft contented sigh at the sight of him. Her best friend. Her ski partner. Life at this place was pure heaven and she never thought she'd ever leave from here until she had to.

She watched his breath clouding the air as he tugged off a glove and lifted his ski goggles. The early morning sun danced across the surface of the new snow, and ice crystals sparkled like spilled sugar. High in the trees a pair of chickadees were singing, and the sky behind them was an unblemished blue.

His muscular body laden with layers and layers of clothing under his outer jacket, bent down in a fluid moment as he dusted the snow off his knees and boots.

Her eyes flickered with emotions as she walked upon the white carpet of snow. She had missed him. Too much for her liking.

Then he raised his body to his towering height and acknowledged her presence, his eyes clashing with hers in surprise.
